Hallmark Guess How Much I Love You~ Recordable Story Book

The story was simple but sweet. I would've preferred names other than "Big Brown Hare" and "Little Brown Hare," (or something like that) since you have to say the names over and over and over. The warning is that you need to record it pretty soon after you get it. This was part of a 3 item order that I placed in June. In September, I'm ready to record it for my niece's birthday this weekend. I spent over an hour and a half messing with it late last night when I should've been packing. I started out okay, but then the recordings would stop in the middle of the playback. I thought it would be the batteries, so I had to hunt till I found 3 new AAA's. I replaced them, hoping I could pick up where I left off, since it says replacing batteries won't change anything. I had more problems, so I had to erase everything and start over. It kept saying turn to the page you want to record. I tried everything, but it wouldn't let me record the first few pages, though it let me re-record the last few. I was so upset. Today I started the return process, and it said the return window only went through July. Luckily, I got a lovely Amazon customer service lady who courteously and efficiently handled the situation. I would've been happy with a replacement, but she said that company's inventory turns over quickly (or something to that effect) so she could do a refund instead. That works. And Amazon gets major points for being so easy to work with. I order a LOT through here, and intend to keep doing so. I haven't read a review that said anyone else has had a problem with these (and they are, after all, Hallmark products), so I'll buy one locally and save my receipt till I know I'm happy with it.

This was a great gift for our new grandson. I'm sure he'll hear it many times during his life. The quality of the book was high. You could record the passages several times until you got it just right. It was a little hard to control the volume as there was no adjustment. You had to change the distance of the book from your your mouth in order to get it at a good level. It had a very good microphone, but you need to be in a very quite place while recording so you don't pick up other sounds in your environment. It can be customized with your own comments where you think it's appropriate. I saved mine to the end of the story.

Only complaint is you can’t save and protect your recording this was an older series of recordable books. The newer style protect your recordings with a switch not easily overwritten.

Although I loved the story itself and the recording instructions were clear and easy to follow, I was disappointed that the story can only be read in bright light. Apparently, strong light is needed to activate the recorded message. So, if you are purchasing this as a bedtime story to be read in muted light, it absolutely will not work. I ended up taking out the batteries and just reading it to my grandson as a regular story book.

I didn't realized this book was USED. It even had the handwriting of the first owner inside. Not what I expected when planning a gift for someone. I got totally ripped off. If they had mentioned that in the description, I would have looked for another one.

We could not get it to work right. After many attempts we found out that the first two pages were not able to record on. This book was bought for my husband to record for our 6 month old grandchild. My husband has cancer and was given weeks to live after I had received this book. He recorded on all pages except the two that are broken. We found the same book at a local store, bought it, and he recorded the entire book! I did not return the book for the fact that his voice is on all the other pages.

This is a sweet, gentle book, perfect for the grandchild we have in mind. It lent itself very nicely to a reading for 2 grandparents to share the story and preserve their voices for this little one (age 5), We had to practice, but it was fun for us.and it was cool to read it back and hear our voices including some laughs. Thank you.

This is a great gift, I originally sent this to my nephew because they live far away. I enjoyed being able to record myself reading the story to him. I have bought one for all my nieces and nephews because these are just great gifts.

Unfortunately this isn't a recordable book despite it being listed as being so.
