Easy, just make sure that you allow enough band to tie the knot. I have had NO problem with knots coming untied or loose.

What exactly is this type of material?

It's an elastic type strip that is cut from a 25' roll and is used to exercise with.

Can these bands be used in the water?

Sure no problem. Don’t know if chlorinated water would shorten the life though.

How long should these last? I have not had them long and my class uses them 1x/week, 4 people use the black & they are splitting & getting holes!

Should last for at least a year… usually 6 months to 2 years, depending on the frequency and intensity of use. How long have they been using them? Doubt you got an old product, but sometimes it happens.
