Great item could do with a free guide
The flir phone usb model is useless but this works which is already progress. The image is good but no instructions on how to diagnose common issues. Flir sell that separately. You tube and a few other sites have helped. Great at showing the hot pipes. I now know where we are missing cavity and loft insulation from inside and where we are losing heat from the outside. Key thing is to use when there is a 20 degree difference from inside to out. Stand a metre away slowly move side to side. Look at the temperatures, only use the colours to give you an idea where to get a temperature. Don't expect even after insulating, that condensation will disappear from your house. If you generate a litre of water in condensation from breathing, cooking, washing, drying it will be in your house until it's mopped up, collected up in a dehumidifier or let out the window/vents. Fixing the insulation will simply stop you loosing heat and cool your home in summer. Saving you money. Condensation will move from the cold spot on your walls to the next coldest place - your windows - until it finally escapes or is cleaned up. If it's not cleaned up, with the help of a bit of oxygen and energy (dust) your get mold growing 😞.

It's OK, but not great
Cannot be used outside, indoors only.Needs some form of light to overlay the image onto. If you use this in a dark room, it's near enough useless. Is it worth the price? Don't think so.

great indoors but not up to the job outdoors
This is a pretty intuitive tool - meaning I could use it straight out of the box without spending an hour reading the instructions first. But that's also the problem - there are no detailed instructions, probably because the functionality is pretty basic.I wanted a camera that could tell me where my house was leaking heat. From doing a bit of research online, I knew that it was important for the outside temperature to be in single digits and for the inside temp to be significanly higher so I cooked my entire house up for hours on a cold evening before testing this. While the camera was showing up the underfloor heating coils quite nicely, identified older double glazing from new and showed what appeared to be areas that were colder than others inside the house. But when I stepped outside, the entire house was a solid bright orange as seen in the picture. Zero distinction between different areas of the house, what was more confusing was the fact that the trees were also the same colour / temperature. So this suggests that my house is either letting all of the heat out or none - neither of which I know to be true. I think this device is perfectly capable of doing the indoor stuff and probably great for the electrics application but it sadly wasn't doing what I needed it to do. I was hoping I could avoid having to fork out a thousand pounds for one of the higher end ones but it seems that's the only option. Paying someone (who knows what they're doing) for a survey suddenly does not seem that expensive any more.

Good quality image
The screen is a decent size, it's clear and the quality is good. Fast boot, takes about 7-10 seconds and there's plenty of options in the menu including calibration type features and a range of difference heat map modes.I tested the temperature with a boiling kettle and it's very accurate. The unit itself feels sturdy as well and comes with a MicroSD card for saving images which can be done by simply pulling the trigger. There's also a laser beam option for precise measuring, but you get a target overlay in the screen anyway so I never use the laser - but could be handy if in a tight spot where you can't see the screen and you could use the laser and pull the trigger to take a screenshot.
