Younger Next Year Journal: Turn Back Your Biological Clock

GREAT BOOK ... good for all to read
I purchased copies for others ... it's that good. It is clear to understand and grasp the concepts and is well explained, jointly written by a Doctor (MD) and a lawyer ... for 2 perspectives as each of them writes alternating chapters alone. The medical science is well explained and very logical and it works; I got in the gym and followed the lessons in this book and got in great shape. It's focused on the EXERCISE and the NUTRITION considerations WE ALL SHOULD FOLLOW DAILY to live longer and healthier.NOTE ... very popular book, they have come out with other versions, including on specifically for WOMEN. So check which version is best for you.

Year Two
This is my second purchase of the YNY Journal. I've completed one year and needed another to continue. It will keep you on track and motivated to do 2 days per week of weight training and 4 days per week cardio. Also help you keep track of what you eat and what you should not. Every so often it reminds you to set a goal to go beyond your comfort zone, and this can be a major assist to one's training. If you use the Journal daily and stick to its recommendations you will most certainly be "Younger Next Year".

EXERCISE / DIET RECORDING JOURNAL
I HAD PURCHASED THE JOURNAL A YEAR OR SO AGO. I FOUND THE INTRODUCTORY MATERIALS USEFUL AS A GENERAL GUIDE TO DIET NUTRITION AND EXERCISE; THE AUTHORS HAVE THEIR VIEWPOINTS; SOME I SHARED SOME I DIDNT. I DID WANT THE PORTION OF THE JOURNAL THAT RECORDED DAILY EXERCISE AND FOOD INTAKES ETC AS A MEANS TO KEEP TRACK ( AND MOTIVATE ME) TO BEING MORE CONSISTENT ABOUT BOTH; STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS CONSIDERING LIFE EVENTS ETC BUT BECOMING MORE CONSISTENT. THE ORIGINAL VERSION I PURCHASED WAS COIL BOUND WHICH ALLOWED THE JOURNAL TO LAY FLAT; NOT A HUGE CONCERN BUT IT WAS A NICER TOUCH THAN THE CURRENT STRAIGHT BOOK BOUND VERSION; A COST SAVING CHANGE I AM SURE. THE WEEKS ARE BROKEN DOWN INTO "EXERCISE AND DIET PLAN FOR THE WEEK" FOLLOWED BY A COMMENT OR HINT BY ONE OF THE AUTHORS; THEN, THE DAYS OF THE WEEK FOLLOW BROKEN DOWN BY CATEGORIES "EXERCISE" "FOOD" AND "LIFE". THERE IS A HEADER SECTION FOR THE INPUT OF DATE AND QUESTION AREAS FOR "HOW WAS YOUR NIGHT?" (SLEEP) AND "MORNING MOOD" ALSO "RESTING HEART RATE" (WHICH THEY TELL YOU HOW TO TAKE IN THE INTRODUCTION). EXERCISE SECTION IS BASICALLY RECORDING "CARDIO" TIME& DISTANCE/ LEVEL/HEART RATE MAX/RECOVERY; THEN, "STRENGTH" TO RECORD EXERCISE FOR UPPER AND LOWER BODY. "FOOD" BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER/ SNACKS/CRAP/BOOZE; THEN "LIFE" CARING, CONNECTING, COMMITTING / HOW DID YOU DO? AMAZING/NOT BAD/ SHAMEFUL/ PLANS FOR TOMMOROW. ALL OF WHICH THE AUTHORS COMMENT ON AS PART OF THEIR VIEWS ON HOW THESE VARIOUS THINGS IMPACT A PERSONS OVERALL HEALTH AS WELL AS HOW TO FIND YOUR MAX HEART RATE / RECORDING FOODS , JUNK FOODS ETC YOU NEED TO GET RID OF ETC. THE JOURNAL IS ABOUT 5" X 7.5" AND PAPER TEXTURE IS SUITABLE FOR WRITING ON IN EITHER PEN OR PENCIL. IF YOU ARE NOT OF THE GENERATION THAT IS USING INTERNET BASED DIET AND EXERCISE TRACKING SOFTWARE OR "APPS" THEN THIS JOURNAL COULD BE USEFUL TO YOU. MAY BE CARRIED AT CHAPTERS / INDIGO OR OTHER BOOKSTORE. MAY BE CHEAPER TO ORDER ONLINE (AMAZON); SINCE THE JOURNAL ONLY GOES FOR ABOUT A YEAR IT MAY PAY YOU TO CONSIDER ORDERING TWO OR MORE (?) FOR SAVINGS ON SHIPPING. I SHOULD NOTE THAT THE JOURNAL IS SOMETIMES SOLD WITH A COMPANION BOOK BY THE AUTHORS AS A SET; THE COMPANION BOOK TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION PROVIDES MORE DETAIL / BACKGROUND ON THEIR HEALTH AND EXERCISE PHILOSOPHY ETC. SO IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING OUT THE COMPANION SET MAY PROVIDE YOU WITH MORE DETAIL AS TO THE '"WHY" BEHIND THEIR PROGRAM. THE JOURNAL DOES NOT HAVE INFORMATION ON INDIVIDUAL EXERCISES; SO, IF THAT IS A CONCERN YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK FOR A JOURNAL OR GUIDE THAT INCORPORATES THOSE. OTHERWISE THERE ARE ABUNDANT INTERNET SITES WITH PHOTO AND VIDEO GUIDES FOR RUNNING, WEIGHT TRAINING, YOGA, ETC THROUGH WHICH YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN EXERCISE PROGRAM. FOR WHAT I WANTED FROM THE JOURNAL IT DOES WELL SO I GAVE IT FOUR STARS; IF THEY HAD RETAINED THE RING/ COIL BINDING SO IT WOULD HAVE LAID FLAT I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT FIVE.

Journal's worth it
I am on my third copy of the journal, which means I have been using this for almost three years. The journal allows you to record what you ate that day, thus keeping track of the good or junk food consumed. It also lets you keep track of your exercise program and what you did. By using the journal daily, it "forces" to you pay attention to your eating and exercise habits. I've lost 12 pounds and keep track of my exercise program and any improvements.

Use It
Journaling is a key part of the process that keeps me on track and in the game even when I don't "feel" like it. Why buy a journal instead of make your own? Because there is something about having it all printed out nicely in a book that is easy to carry around on trips that encourages me to do it. I now have 3 full journals on my shelf. When I get lazy they shout at me to get off my duff and do it. And I do. In short, its another part of the YNY process which works.

Not practical
They went cheap on the binder. Should be spiral. If it's not going to be spiral, then the pages should be bigger. Not nearly enough space to write what you really need.

"Now I Get It"
This is a daily journal that will help you track your progress with eating, exercising and life-style, such as social activity, etc. It is easy to use and an indispensable companion to a great book "Younger Next Year" which also comes in a special edition for women. Highly recommend using the journal faithfully, because it will show you why your program is working - or why it is not!

I have buyer's remorse!
The book by the same author is very inspiring and has got me into a new regime. I had high hopes for the Journal, but it is a huge waste of time. In its paperback format, the pages do not open wide and flat enough to allow writing. Even if it were a coil binder, the design of the pages is very poor, with very small spaces in which to write. Besides there are some relevant types of information that would be valuable to record. It is a complete waste of money, and had I not optimistically filled in the blanks on the first page, I would return it in a heartbeat. I am really annoyed.

"In Training at 70"
This book is a very easy read and straight to the point. The Drs approach to a convincing message was humerous butFactual. I have bought the Journal and am trying this new concept to getting older. I've told my friends of this book.Every 50yr old should read this.

Perfect!!
I have read both of Cris Crowley's books and am now rereading the Weight Loss one. He hits the nail on the head telling us it's exercise that makes us old, or with it healthly and young. Sure worth a try. I also bought a FITBIT gadget, and helps me to use Chris' ideas to move more. This Journal makes us aware of how much too much we eat, or how too little we move. A must-have for a health journey!

I'm getting old and I don't like it.
Every year the aches and pains seem to get worse and the 'skinny fat man paunch' a little bigger.Reading this book gave me the kick up the but I needed but in an informative non-judgmental way.Great insights, good practical advice. Buy a heart rate monitor and start living again.
