Do you really need to plug the cable for the shutter speed work?

You only plug the cable in for the shutter button on the grip to work, shutter speed is controlled via the camera body

Does this work with the 850d

As far as I can see Canon haven't made a grip for the 850D and the battery door isn't removable.
