Purchased - but with some unforeseen additional expenses - beware
Well, where do I start. If you read the feedback regarding this product, the percentage was at 4.5 out of 5. Therefore I decided to purchase it with this in mind. The actual cost was £195.00, but then the delivery was £96.78. This was the first warning sign as it was sold by Copystars Europe, as the initial cost was now £291.78. Why so expensive for a product coming from Europe. I was wrong! Around two weeks later, using the tracking number provided, I found it was exported from the USA. I was not too duly worried, although other thoughts did cross my mind as there were no UK feedbacks to read from previous purchasers.I continued to watch the progress delivery tracking and eventually my package arrived into the UK. A Customs Duty was now requested, a fee to be paid in advance to import it and to allow it into the country before the package could continue its journey to my house. I received a letter from Parcelforce requesting a fee for customs clearance. I assumed around £12.00. No, I was wrong! I had to pay an additional fee of £58.45. I thought all customs duties would be included in the delivery charge! WRONG AGAIN!Anyway, I paid the fee as requested and it was delivered the following day. Very efficient of Parcelforce.I opened the box, and there it was, my pride and joy. As usual I read the quick start menu just to make sure I understood everything. The quick-start menu stated it was important to ensure the voltage switch is selected for the country voltage before starting anything, and the picture demonstrated where the switch is located. Looking at my unit - NO VOLTAGE SELECTOR SWITCH! First warning was the mains lead supplied was a two-pin round pin plug, with no UK plug lead. No rating plate stating the voltage. Another idea - email the customer care support team at Copystars. Did they respond - NO!Reading though the international feedback for this product, I found out that units that do not have a selector switch is rated at 110V. I am so glad I didn't risk plug this into a 230V supply with a different lead. What can I do now? Another idea, now purchased a 230v - 110V step down transformer from Amazon that is suitable for products purchased from aboard with the round-pin plug. Now a further £40.99 to pay out. Oh well.Anyway, after all this, I plugged the copier into the transformer that was delivered the following day and carefully pressed the "on" button waiting for a bang or smoke to permeate from my new purchase. It worked with a sigh of relief and the lights started to operate and the display came alive. Continuing through the step-by-step instructions that were so easy to follow, I was so please it actually worked and manage to make a duplicate of my first DVD. I have repeated the process three times, and each time was successful. So if you want to purchase this unit, please ensure you can justify the cost, and to be aware of the delivery cost, customs duty plus purchase of the step down transformer.I just hope this unit continues to operate. I have awarded it 3 stars for this product, due to all the additional unforeseen costs of customs duty and the transformer. I wish Amazon would ensure to take my comments on board as their description is not fully accurate, unless the specification or supplier location has changed. Now used over a month. The unit failed to copy two DVD, but by using the troubleshooting guide enclosed with unit, and changed the DVD burn rate from the default of x24 to what was stated on the DVD blanks - x16, it now appears to be working okay. I found out it is best to use a DVD +RW to make as a master, verify the copy, then make a copy to DVD - R discs. Verify the first one, and use this to make other copies to other DVD -R discs. This is only my opinion which works for me.Still very happy with it, and have now changed the star rating from three to four. Yes, it is expensive for a copier, but it is a standalone unit that makes copies without having to use a computer.
