The Kalanchoe plant tolerates various lighting but enjoys bright light resting on a windowsill. Keep the plant away from direct sunlight especially during summer. A thin and leggy plant indicates the plant is not receiving enough light. Average to low humidity is sufficient. Use well-drained, light soil, one suitable for succulents. You can make your own soil mix for Kalanchoe by combining 1 part all purpose soil and 1 part grit. Water moderately throughout the summer and reduce watering in the winter. Let the soil surface dry out between watering, and in the winter, the plant can almost dry out. Watch the fleshy leaves for signs of water distress.

While k. pinnata and k. brasiliensis have similar properties , they are two different species
