An optimal ab wheel.
I'm a pretty skinny tall dude who's been looking to get in shape the past few months. Shamefully, I've never had enough stable income to afford a gym membership as they're rather expensive where I live, and I don't see that changing soon. Therefore, my best option was to peep the sitch on what sort of new workout equipment the late-night infomercials were hawking. Long story short, the AbCarver Pro was what I ended up choosing. It was in my price range and seemed legit, so what do I think so far? Well, it's basically an optimized ab wheel. Why should you buy this over one of the many cheaper alternatives? I think there are a few reasons why it's worth shelling out a little extra for. The biggest feature it boasts is the spring inside which provides extra resistance on the push, and helps you come back, allowing you to keep good, consistent rhythm during the workout. This spring is fairly durable. I noticed some other reviews mention that it broke, but I feel that this could only be the result of improper assembly or shipping because it's made of sturdy metal. Secondly you have the handles, which are optimized to position your arms in a way that will activate your triceps. Despite the name, this wheel is also viable for working your arms out, allowing you to multitask while adding comfort to the grip. Lastly, there is the width and shape of the wheel itself. It's quite wide and features a safe tread so you can use it on any surface without ruining your floor. While some could argue that the extra width might make it too easy, one must bear in mind that with more narrow wheels, you are using your hands and wrists more than your arms or abs to keep it balanced, and that won't help you much. More narrow wheels can also loosen over time, whereas I think this was built to last. Oh, and do everything you can to buy it on Amazon and NOT the official website! They will charge you extra and the billing info you enter has to be exact down to capitalization, and they won't tell you that your order didn't go through until days later. Anyways, it also comes with some high-density foam kneepads which help quite a bit and can also be used as a "marker" for your starting position. The box has some basic instructions in it but mostly just tells you to visit their site to see different routines you can do. I wouldn't have minded a DVD or something, but whatever. You can use a wall or something (I used a box) to gauge how far you need to go for each rep and back yourself up from there if you want to extend it. One annoying thing is that you have to sometimes "reset" the spring, but you only need to lift it up to do that. The kneepads also seem to slide a little (on my wood floor, anyway). You can also mix it up by carving left and right, like the commercial states. As for my personal results, I've only been using it for roughly half a month and I definitely feel my arms and abs activating with each session, using it 2-3 times a day for just a few minutes. It's fairly simple to achieve proper form and will help you obtain a strong core. Make no mistake, it's a tough workout, but hey, that's how you get results. One thing I should note is that this is the only workout I've ever done that has helped the bad back I have had since I was a child (I know, 23 with a bad back, it sucks). I have had much less difficulty bending over and that sort of thing. In closing, I would definitely recommend this if you are specifically looking to work out your abs and arms since it doesn't do much else. It should go without saying but make sure to maintain a balanced diet if you want those abs to show through. Eat those veggies, kids! There are a lot of diet plans online that should be within your price range, but that's a different story entirely. If your local gym or fitness center happens to have one, try it out there and see what you think before purchasing, if you're on the fence about it.

Will Work as Hard as You Will
Initial notes: - This alone will not give you abs. Only low body fat percentage will do that, which is done by proper nutrition and burning fat via exercise. - The Ab Carver is simple but intense. I would not recommend this if you are moderate to severely overweight as it is puts a lot of weight on your upper arms and you may not be able to do it properly. - Read as much about the human body and how it works as you can. Understanding your body is a biological machine that requires proper maintenance to be the way you want it to be is half of the battle. I have been using the Ab Carver for 21 days now, and just completed the initial training circuit it recommends before increasing the roll distance. In short, this little piece of equipment gives you a high intensity workout in a short amount of time. You'll be working arms, back, shoulders, and most importantly your core. After one use you WILL feel it. When purchasing, first thing you'll need to do is get on the Ab Carver website and print off their instructions and workout schedule. It is ridiculous they do not send this with your purchase, but its likely a ploy to get you to your website. The workout consists of alternating days 3 sets of 10 reps straight out, with 3 sets of 5 for obliques. This increases each week, until day 21 where you will start pushing out farther. Quality of the machine is pretty high. I haven't had any problems with the spring inside, and the handles are pretty firm. The pads they send for your knees are pretty flimsy, but again I never had an issue with using them. Does this machine work? Yes. I am already getting defined upper abs, and working on losing my remaining belly fat to show off the lower abs. I can't stress enough the importance of body fat percentage for abs. If you don't combine this with a caloric deficit and cardio, you will never get visible abs. Running, jogging, biking, anything getting your heart rate up is good for this combined with proper nutrition. I can't tell you how long or how hard you'll have to work to get abs, it can literally take months and months depending on your start point. My advice is not focus too much on gaining that "perfect body" but instead focus on getting a healthy, fit body. For me, I'm on a 60 day plan alternating between running and strength training, with a high protein diet and overall 500 calorie daily deficit. This machine is only a small piece of the overall puzzle to getting in shape, but use it correctly and it is a good tool. Some final tips: 1) Develop a plan. You are much more likely to fail if you don't set up a schedule for exercise and also get a meal plan set up. 2) Push through what I call the "Disappointing" phase. You're going to be working your butt off, look in the mirror in 10 days, and feel sad because you aren't ripped. Getting a highly fit body will take at least several months, maybe more depending on your start point. Don't expect it after a few hard exercises. 3) Be realistic. The people you see in the commercials for these types of machines are professionals paid to have an almost unsustainable low body fat. Aim for being healthy and lean, as being completely ripped will likely be more time that what you'll want to put in (myself included). Thanks for reading, your new body begins with the first roll! *DAY 90 UPDATE* Having continued using this every other day as per the schedule, I am now at the max possbile roll distance and difficulty and have been at this level for several weeks. This has certainly increased my core strength, and has given me some nice visible ab outlines now that my body fat is sub 14%. Machine still works perfectly.

Works great on carpet, good product overall
Works great even on my thick, soft carpet. I was a little worried about the handles touching the carpet due to their canted design, but they work no problem. The handles are very ergonomic and their is enough spring resistance that it's not too much struggle, or too much assistance.

Sturdy, Effective, and More Comfortable Than Standard Rollers
This ab roller is awesome—much sturdier than the cheap ones I’ve used before. The wide wheel keeps me steady, the spring gives just enough push back, and the padded handles are really comfortable. Definitely worth it for quick core workouts at home. A great tool for building core strength at home. More stable, comfortable, and versatile than standard ab rollers, and the resistance feature makes it accessible for both beginners and advanced users.

The Best Abdominal Exercise Product Ever
This is the best abdominal exercise product ever made. If the now-defunct automobile manufacturer "Hummer" were to make an "Ab Wheel" product, it would surely look like this. Unlike competing thin-surface-area ab-wheel products, this beast has a super-wide surface-area that is very nicely rubberized, and shaped with a slant to each side enabling you to roll straight forward and back, or easily roll out to the right or left and back. The result is a very stable feeling... not wobbly at all. The handles are generously-sized and ergonomically comfortable. The interior coiled-spring effect does provide a little bit of "help" pushing you back... but not as much "help" as you might think. You don't want a lot of help, or it would defeat the purpose of the exercise... and this provides just that very little push-back assistance at the very end of your full forward extension, to help get you going back... not too much. It's still 90% left up to your own ab-crunching to get back to a starting position. I think that's just about a perfect balance. The first time I did this exercise, I thought "Oh this is too easy... I don't feel the burn... it's probably not going to do much for me." Wrong. The next day I could hardly sit up from a laying-down position. I learned quickly to moderate my exercises with this thing. It's working your abs far more than you may initially feel it is. My wife uses it now, too... and she had the same experience. Start off with a modest number of reps, even if you think you can do a lot more... and wait to see how you feel the next day. I highly recommend this as an effective, reasonably comfortable, quick work-out to strengthen your core and abdominal muscles, in a way that is far more fun, and more comfortable, than doing sit-ups.

Excellent engineering behind this product.
I was a bit cautious from the depth of discussion of 1 star comment, as that's the first place I look for got-ya advert omissions. Still, 4+5 stars topped 90% of buyers, so I tried it. When I received the unit, I was very impressed with the design. As an Engineer, I see a lot of suboptimal designs. Too dang many with big brags, smiling marketing mannequin stock photos that never saw/used the product. Not the case here. Just the opposite. The spring snap/lock lets the handles go on quickly/easily and are shaped very ergonomically. The extra wide wheel is very stable and spreads your weight well enough that it didn't even leave a track in my office carpet which was one of my ordering concerns. The non-mar wheel tread has good friction and should work well on even smooth, dry surfaces. The steel thickness is substantial with a good chrome job. First use was comfortable and I can see myself gradually stretching out further as I build up. Spring resistance is designed to a moderate level and should be no difficulty for beginners. No negative points on this review. Highly recommended all around.

Great Abdominal Exercise Tool - UPDATE 10/13/2016 still works fine
My mom had the old school version of this when I was a kid, and I remember using it when I started working out a long time ago as a teenager. This is a "new improved" version. It is pretty basic except for a few enhancements that have been made to the "old school" design. The handles are very ergonomic and appear to be fairly heavy duty. I have put a lot of weight down on them and they do not flex at all. The wheels are not flat, which allow free movement to change direction and target the outer abdominal muscles. Lastly, there is a "stop" feature when rolling backwards. This is helpful so that you can easily start another rep at the same place every time and don't risk going back too far. Helpful tips: Don't let your legs go past the 90 degree mark when pulling the wheel back. You want your thighs to be straight up in the starting position. You also do not want to keep your arms straight down. The first thing you should do before starting a rep is move ONLY your arms forward. Having your arms straight down creates stability, therefore defeating the purpose of this exercise. The point is to create instability to force your mid section to force the wheel back. If your arms are straight down then aren't going to be getting anything out of this exercise. That being said, don't go "too far". You want to go out far enough for you to pull the wheel back several times. Find that sweet spot and hammer them out. UPDATE - 10/13/2016 - I'll be honest in saying this has not gotten CONSISTENT use lately but it's still being used (albeit sporadically). It's still working fine, even in a more dusty environment than I'd like (my garage).
