Yogasana is the most eco-sustainable yoga mat made. Our mats are hand-made in the region of India where yoga began. The Yogasana story begins in 15th century with Saint Kibir a mystic poet who earned his living as a weaver. The weavers of Benares have continued the tradition to this day. Our weavers are part of the professional lineage of Kibir. Each mat takes 10 days to make, all by hand. The signature of the weaver on the mat represents the ‘hand-off’ from his hands to yours. Our foundation, Yogasana Circle, gives back to support the education of the children of the workers who make our mats…We believe the karma is good! 100% cotton provides superior grip. When you sweat- YOU GRIP. On plastic/rubber mats, when you sweat – YOU SLIP. Our mats excel with all types of yoga: Hatha – Vinyasa – Restorative – Hot – Iyengar – Kundalini – Prenatal – Yin – Viniyoga. Woven to 72” x 25” our mat is longer and wider than standard mats. Our mat does not deteriorate in the sun. our mat travels well – weighting just 4 lbs. They’re easy to wash in cold water. Line dry. Our mat is ¼” thick and gets softer over time. Not good for Ashtanga Yoga
I bought this mat because I do ashtanga yoga 6 days a week. The last mat I got quickly started wearing where my feet go in downward dog and in my jump backs and planks. This mat is currently 1 and 1/2 months old. It's not wearing out as far as I can tell. But it does require a mat underneath it otherwise it will slide around on my hard wood floor. Its also very hard! I've developed these calluses under my middle finger on my palm from downward dog and handstands.Lastly the bottom gets narrower so there's a ripple in the fabric where your feet or hands would go.Overall I'll keep using it but I don't love it. It might be ok for a slower paced yoga but not for a quicker vinyasa practice.

Be Careful About the Color Running
My mat needed to be washed three times before it could be used due to the purple dye running. If you get this one, I strongly recommended reading up on how to stop colors from running with cotton items. Since I purchased it, I have learned this is a common issue with cotton mats. The mat is not soft but it gets better with each wash. Other reviews thought this was a negative but I was neutral on it. If you want a softer mat, I recommending getting a rubber mat.The quality of the stitching is ok.The thickness of the mat is perfect. The description states it is thick but I would consider it medium. The color is very good. Even after the dye ran on the first two washes, I still liked the purple color. On a wooden floor, the mat can move significantly depending on the yoga class. I am going to try spraying the bottom of the mat with a little water to get better traction. Outside, the mat works much better.I am not sure whether I would buy this mat or any cotton mat again due to the lack of grip on a wooden floor.

Thick, heavy, and quality product.
Purchased the white yoga rug and it is beautiful. Since I live in a small home, I can use it as a runner/rug then use it for my home yoga practice. I would take it out more but it is pretty heavy. I also machine washed (and line dried) the product and save a few wrinkles it came out just fine.

Loving My Yogasana Mat
I've been using my Yogasana mat for about two weeks and am loving it. I had always wanted a more eco-friendly mat, and had seen the great reviews for these mats. I'm really appreciating it now in the warm, humid summer months. There is no annoying sticking to this cotton mat as with conventional PVC or rubber mats. For me the grip of my Yogasana is perfect. I also like the fact that by purchasing Yogasana mats I am helping an Indian artisan to earn a living practicing traditional weaving.

No you can't have my Yogasana Mat!!
Everyone wants to try my new mat. I have had it about a month and a half and use it a few times a week for hot yoga. What a difference from slipping on my old rubber mat. There is nothing better than cotton mats for hot yoga. They grip better as you sweat. After reviewing other mats, Yogasana seemed to have the best reputation (see other reviews) and quality. After using if for over a month I find the workmanship (i.e. tight weaves) of the mat to be excellent. It seems like it will last a long long time. Now for color options!! Lots to choose from, I went with the either. It is a nice faded purple.I almost want to buy more just to have additional colors. Definitely worth the money, highly recommended. Say good bye to rubber mats!!

Wonderful mat
This mat is absolutely beautiful and everything I hoped it would be. Not too soft, not too hard -- it's comfortable for my long restoratives but I can also do crow pose on it and keep my balance during sun salutations. It looks so great that I feel OK with leaving it unrolled in my living room. I love that it's completely handmade and the brown color suits me perfectly (vata dosha). Check out the video on their website that explains the effects of the different colors.I'm attaching a picture but it doesn't do it justice. It looks different in different lights and even in different poses. Not sure I'd recommend it for a beginner to learn on and it wouldn't be right for someone that needs a lot of padding. Though I think it would work fine to place it on top of another mat.

Extremely rough mat and shrunk when washed
The mat had an extremely rough texture to start off with, so much so that I had pressure marks on my forehead and rug burn on my knees and hands. So, following the instructions, I washed the mat in cold water on a gentle cycle and hung to dry. The mat softened but had shrunk in width to 22.5 inches! I'm a petite woman and I feel like I'm now doing yoga on a mini throw rug.

A one of a kind yoga mat...
I absolutely LOVE my new Yogasana mat! Im SO glad I discovered this company. I spoke with the founder Kevin, who was very kind, informative on the company and their vision, and just an all around pleasant person to talk to!These mats are Eco-friendly and sustainable. They are hand woven in India, and it takes a total of 10 days per mat to make. No machinery means leaving a zero carbon footprint on the Earth! They use cotton dyes and the process is natural. They also have the Yogacircle cause; which donates a portion of all sales to the talented master weavers children for their education. With that being said, there is no child labor and they always pay fair wages. These mats have incredible energy, that you truly FEEL...As someone spent a great deal of time and focus to make it.I am SO thankful for them for creating such a one of a kind mat, and for Kevin and the Yogasana team! Much love to the entire team, keep up the amazing work. You truly ARE making a difference!Kevin also sent some complementary sandlewood incense with the mat, how sweet is that?! I highly recommend these mats to ANYONE, they are truly worth every dollar spent.
