Use as : Bath, beach, gym, yoga, sauna, hammam towel, throw, blanket. Takes 1/3 of place of a terry towel. Unlike terry towels, they get softer with each wash. Color : Dark Grey The pestemal (pesh-te-mahl) towel is a large thin and highly absorbant towel with fringed ends that is used in Turkish culture as a drying waistcloth. What makes this towel exeptional is that it is highly absorbant as well fast drying. It is made of 100% famous Turkish cotton. The pestemal can be used as an excellent spa companion serving as a towel or wrap, an after shower or massage cover-up, a pareo over a swim suit, a practical towel for backpacking and boating, a travel towel taking up very little space and air drying very quickly.

Most recent towels are the best
I absolutely love these! Beautiful muted colors. All cotton, handmade. An incredible bargain. These were my first peshtemal towels, so I wasn’t sure what to expect or what to compare them to. Lightweight, generous size, and a nice texture that is not too soft. They did not shrink a great deal, if at all. Unfortunately, they are no longer available but I would imagine that others by Bosphorus (also operating as Copper Bull) has similar quality ones.I did purchase a total of 12 more towels from Bosphorus/Copper Bull that they recommended since these were no longer available. They are nice looking (nice bright colors, diamond weave, and nice smooth texture). But I still prefer the originals for now, although they may grow on me.Update July 2019:The original towels (like thick woven string) are still doing well, but they left lint on my daughter’s swimsuit. Less now than a year ago.The diamond weave towels were awful and not soak up water at all. Pretty but useless. The latest batch purchased a month or two ago are the best! It’s like a really big, super sized thick flour sack towel. Much larger than the other towels. Texture seemed weird at first but they absorb water well and dry quickly. They also look great. They are my daughter’s favorite towels for summer swim meets.

Excellent quality, very versatile
I purchased these towels for use as bath towels, after years of frustration with "traditional" terry cloth towels that never fully dry between uses and become musty very quickly. Ultimately, I found them to be a bit too big for a bath towel, but I took them with me when my family went to the beach this summer and they are the perfect beach towel! Due to the large size, they are almost like a beach blanket, and they dry incredibly quickly, which is fantastic when you are the beach with kids who are in and out of the water. I found that it I left them stretched out in full sun, they dried within 30 minutes, and at the end of the day, I hung them on the line and they were completely dry and ready to head back to the beach the following morning. As a bonus, I had two clean towels in my carry-on on the return flight home, and discovered that they make a perfect wrap/lightweight blanket in-flight! The quality is excellent - very soft cotton that has already become more plush with a handful of washings (ensure you follow care instructions closely)! These are a great find!

Still NOT absorbent after 1 month - look beautiful tho!
These are SUMMER OUTDOOR TOWELS! They do look beautiful and are just like the pictures.Unless they are going to magically start absorbing a lot more water (it's been a month since I've used them regularly), I just don't understand the hype with Turkish towels. In the summer I am sure they are better with the heat for drying, but I have been using them for the hot tub in the winter and you feel like you are drying off with something that just doesn't absorb water well. It's not terrible, just not like a nice plush or regular terry cloth towel.

Another crappy Amazon Vendor Major Shrinkage and Curling
These towels are soft. Softer than the large flat ones. However, after several washes, the sides shrunk and curled up and the tassels came unravelled. I do not recommend theses towels. The picture shows the original size and the current shrunken misshapen size. Don't waste your money. Maybe this company would like to send a better quality towel to me or refund my money.

Exactly What I Wanted!
Very happy with this purchase. I followed care care instructions I found on line (none came with the towels) to prepare the towels for first use and care for them when washing.1. SOAK THEM IN A TUB OF WATER for a few hours, or overnight if possible, before first use. This is to help swell the fibers so they will absorb water better when used. I was satisfied with the results; I did not have the absorbency problem some reviewers mentioned.2, WASH IN MILD DETERGENT, NO FABRIC SOFTENER, DRIP DRY if possible. I used Woolite for HE machine. I have dried these in the drier several times now, but I dry on low and try to take out when they are just short of dry. I think the NO FABRIC SOFTENER is the most important part here to retain water absorbency.3. IF having an occasional knot unravel in the wash and having retie them seems like a pain, check to see if they are tight before washing. I don’t do this one…haven’t had any knots unravel yet, but I know how to twist and retie if they do.I like these so much I will be buying more to give as gifts. They are perfect for traveling as they pack light and take up little room. In fact, on a recent 9 day trip to Hawaii, my family of four took 6 towels along and were still able to travel without checking any luggage. I will NEVER pack big beach towels again! I used on sandy beaches, at poolside, and boating at a lake (after the Hawaii trip). I also used as a shower towel, a cover up, a light blanket on plane, a picnic blanket, and for sun-shade.Also love the colors.

Only towels we use now
These Turkish Fouta Towels are the only towels we use now.I first used fouta towels a few years ago and I am a convert. They are nothing like traditional, American, terrycloth, towels but they do a great job of drying you off after a shower or a dip in the pool and they take up almost no space in your linen closet. Plus, they dry super fast so they save energy, too. These towels are thin, woven, towels. The sizing is very generous, though. They are made of 100% cotton and are similar to American tea towels. The thing you need to know is that they must be washed 5-6 times to reach maximum absorbency and do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Fabric softener and dryer sheets reduce absorbency in every kind of towel, btw. Instead I use dryer balls, which make towels nice and soft. They seem a little strange at first but we love them. They are much larger than bath towels and they are plenty absorbent. They look great with the twisted self fringe at either end and the woven in stripes. But what I really love is that I can fit the 12 I purchased in such a small space in my linen closet. These are perfect for people who have limited storage space.I had a house fire earlier this year and lost all of my towels. I replaced them with a dozen of these and everyone is pleased.

Functional large towel, also good scarf/shawl.
Great quality for the price, though doesn't scream luxury (a bit thin and not crazy soft). Folds up very small for the size without sacrificing usefulness as a towel. They are very soft and comfortable, so much so that my family often wears them as scarves, and they are big enough to keep you warm in chilly weather! Overall an enjoyable and versitile piece of fabric.
