When I moved into this house, I had a hard car top carrier that I needed to get up off the garage floor. I happened to have a few bike storage rope and pulley systems, so I put two of them together to lift my Thule carrier up to the ceiling. It works, but I was always worried that I was pushing the bike mounts a little too far. So, once I had a little more free time, I rebuilt the cargo carrier lift using stronger hardware such as this swivel pulley block. With a 1000-pound rating, I'm not worried that it's not up for the task.

I didnt like having to lift items into the back of my pickup truck, but this was killing my back. I found these pulleys and it really helped. I can now just use my weight, and pull down on the rope, and I could lift items more easily. The functionality is straight forward, the durability seems pretty good. Overall, I'm quite satisfied!

The double ball bearings are such a great friction reducer. I am upgrading a pulley with the same size but the nominal rating could not even withstand a tenth of it's stated capacity and which totally eliminated all pulley leverage. The old pulley failed just from light usage. 1000lbs is way overkill for what I need it to do but I think it's better to over rig than gamble on a lower quality. Lesson learned. I need it to support up to about 200 lbs and it does that and does not cause friction tension that overrides the pulley system advantage. The swivel is on a thick bolt and is convenient for turning the load when necessary.
