Fiddly to assemble but effective in use
This is a rather neat strip of five varied tea lights sitting on a mains powered strip. It is supplied boxed along with a plastic box spanner and requires assembly before you can use it. The glass shades are wrapped in cardboard and have to be bolted in place using the box spanner. Once located you have to insert the five bulbs which are supplied separately. While this does not take too long it is a bit fiddly and may be enough to put off some people. When assembled the unit does look quite effective and feels quite weighty and solidly made. The lights only go bright enough for a background light but can be adjusted using a rather clunky dimmer unit, attached on to the mains cable. This is quite bulky and the sort of thing you will want to hide away which makes it rather inconvenient to adjust the lights or turn them on and off unless you have a smart plug controlled by Alexa or something similar. In use, it does look rather attractive with the glass shades varied designs providing varied light patterns and reflecting off the chrome base. The Tea Lights use standard 10W Halogen Capsule G4 bulbs which are easily obtainable and reasonably priced. The ability to dim the lights are a nice touch but ensure any replacement bulbs support this feature, especially if you are replacing with LEDs. This is not cheap but can look very effective as long as you are able to hide the mains lead away.

Mood lighting.
Bally tea light shades..........A chrome stand with 5 small, glass shades in co-ordinating colours sitting on it, each shade has a small G4 12v, 10w bulb inside it to illuminate then and give out a gentle light which is similar to tea light candles.Presentation...........The light arrives in pieces- each glass shade being carefully wrapped in tissue and card to protect it on the the journey. The bulbs are provided in a small bag, each in their own box- these are not low energy, long life LEDs...if you wish to swap these for LED’s it can be done at a cost of around two pounds ninety a bulb... swapping the bulbs would also lower the running cost and stop the chrome tray and bulbs from getting hot.Building the light............This wasn’t a big job, but if you are unsure it can look a little daunting. The instruction leaflet covers the construction but by golly is it unprofessional- a photocopied sheet. If I was giving this as a gift I would build it before giving it..as the presentation when it arrives is a little “ market stall”.The look..........To get the most from the display it needs to be switched on, when not lit it doesn’t look anything special at all, I think it’s because the lights are set out in a line. When switched on the light is a gentle glow rather than a table lamp , it is pretty and if displayed correctly can look very effective, I have it in my bedroom for a soft mood light....I will be changing the bulbs though.

Pleasing effect but fiddly assembly
This light feature comprises a chrome-effect base unit with a rubberised non-scratch base, five glass shades in various designs, made to resemble tea-light holders, a power lead with dimmer unit and five miniature halogen bulbs. A plastic box-spanner is also included to assist with assembly. Be aware that, unless you have long, thin and very dextrous fingers, you are likely to find the assembly process quite a chore. In the end, I resorted to a pair of long-nosed pliers to drop the washers into place. The final task of inserting the bulbs is particularly awkward as, being old-school halogen bulbs, you are not supposed to touch the glass surface, whilst manoeuvring the two tiny prongs into place. Unfortunately I found this unavoidable, so only time will tell how long the bulbs will last (a pack of 10 replacements costs around £8).Onto the good points. After half an hour or so of assembling the unit, I eagerly plugged in. Have to admit that the results are quite pleasing. I particularly like the dimmer function, which allows anything from a low-level cosy effect up to a brightness easily sufficient to read by. Could have done with a little more length in the power lead perhaps. The shades and upper surface of the base do get quite warm, so do make sure it's not touching anything that could be damaged or is inflammable.Overall, I do like the quite charming ambiance provided by this unusual lighting feature, but it does strike me as a little on the pricey side and could have been designed to make changing the bulbs a bit easier.

Good, could be better.
Pros:looks really pretty and much more expensive than they actually were. Well worth £20.Would suit most rooms/settings as neutral.Good safe easily recyclable packaging.Cons:Incredibly fiddly to put together, although gets easier once you have mastered the first one.Controller is utterly hideous, ugly &huge, not in keeping with the set.Halogen bulbs which are less popular now & harder to replace due to the increased fire risk associated with some of them.
