A sharp, full tang, battle ready sword from MAKOTO. Both beginners and avid collectors will appreciate the attention to detail on this piece! From the High Carbon steel blade, to the tight cord wrap (Ito) and alloy guard (Tsuba), this sword is fully functional in every sense. The full tang blade extends to the end of the hardwood handle and comes razor sharp and thick. The wooden scabbard (Saya) includes a gloss burgundy red finish, nylon cloth, and metal Kurigata fittings. The handle is wrapped with real ray skin. The tsuba depits a Date Masamune design. Date Masamune (September 5, 1567 – June 27, 1636) was a regional strongman of Japan's Azuchi–Momoyama period through early Edo period. Heir to a long line of powerful daimyos in the Tohoku region, he went on to found the modern-day city of Sendai. An outstanding tactician, he was made all the more iconic for his missing eye, and Date was often called dokuganryu, or the "one-eyed dragon".

I was excited to get this but worried it might not be what was anticipated in quality and craftmanship. A gift for my son and had to be perfect. This sword was above and beyond anything I expected.Beautiful to say the least. The picture on site does not come close to having it in my hands!!Love it.

This sword is very good for the price.
The katana is very good, the steel is 1045 but is sturdy and a very good shape. I recommend this sword.

Sharp and beautiful...
Indeed a beauty..layered steel...I love this sword, it is the real McCoy for sure..balance is perfect. It came Quite sharp and then I honed it with a 5000 grit Japanese stone to an edge that cut a tomato just by looking at it...well almost that sharp..beautiful Rosewood scabbard too..a forever keeper.

Everything says Japanese about it but stamped on the sepoa says china . Faulse advertising there japan bever incorporated anything from china on their katanas cause the swordsmiths took great pride in their work and done it all by hand . Yea its battle ready yes its hand forged but not Japanese .

Probably not worth the $$
The habaki rattles, paint is already wearing off. The display box is complete junk also, the liner is not secured to box and looks horrible. The blade itself seems ok. The sharpening job is poor but the edge is straight.
