Paper in My Shoe: Name Papers, Petition Papers, and Prayer Papers in Hoodoo, Rootwork, and Conjure

I bought this book based on the fact I’ve other books by Cat. Firstly it’s a lot of context at the beginning which in my opinion is just fluff or filling as it’s irrelevent and somewhat boring, for such a small book it’s alot of unnecessary waffle. Secondly the spells well a majority require oils/herbs from the Lucky Mojo site which is great marketing but if you want to make your own spells again it’s useless. You might as well save your cash and just read the info on the website or join the forum. Whilst it does give you a good list of spells you can probably research the ingredients yourself & adapt the spell to your needs or location (as you can’t get some herbs in some countries). There’s tiny section on candle magic, which she refers to in another book about candle magic but seriously she’s been called out for this before. In the same book Candle magic it’s literally a chunk of her website which is free. I’m all for supporting the witchy hoodoo toot workers community but at least give people something more than an inventory of your website. There’s also a really badly worded sentence regarding your intentions for wanting to learn Hoodoo traditions, where she suggests if you aren’t Black then get some Black friends (see pic). These sentiments whilst endearing they aren’t helpful in tackling appropriation as having Black friends & being involved in the community doesn’t make you less racist. Overall if you just want to add the book to your collection get it if not save your money & just check out the Lucky Mojo website

Awsome little book very well written and informative, if you want to know about writing petitions this will show you just that, it has some history about it too. Great little book
