Flight Sim VR
Pimax created this simplified version of their standalone offering by removing some of the extras, like onboard battery, eye tracking, etc. to make it more affordable for those who intend to use it seated at their computer desk for flight simulators and racing games. Their advertisement and product description clearly reflects on that and surely, they are spot on, everything about this headset as advertised. The Crystal Light retained the original Crystal's super high resolution and high-quality display. It is somewhat disappointing that they are charging extra for the software, but once installed and the VR headset initialize, it is ready to go! The game controllers aren't really needed for flight sim, but they are very easy to set up and can be useful time to time, while can be turned off at any time. During the initial setup, it is recommended to charge them right away before the setup is completed, in case one chooses to use them right away. For seated applications like flight simming, I recommend disabling the safety boundary by unselecting the "Activating Chaperone" feature in the Device Settings/Advanced. With that feature selected, the headset will keep turning on the see trough screen and safety boundary lost error every time the headset is removed and placed on the desk. Very annoying, because one cannot select another flight and continue with the gaming session without exiting the game and recalibrate the room setting. That's something to beware of. Otherwise, the software is fantastic, very simple and easy to use, and includes their own version of built in Open XR. I must say it does worth the extra, if they keep on maintaining it. The performance enhancing features work great, fixed foveated rendering greatly reduces processing load, and the lack of eye tracking probably won't affect most of the users, while also eliminates some extra burden of processing. I expected a serious performance hit coming from the HP Reverb G2, but to my surprise, it was the other way around, I noticed a slight increase in the frame rate, while sharpness and clarity blew me away. I surely did not expect that level of upgrade in performance, The Reverb G2 is known for its incredible image. The mild screen door effect of the G2 completely disappeared From the Crystal light, colors and brightness are eye candy. I tried the "smart smoothing" feature enabled from Device Setting/Games, also works as expected, but I did not gain enough boost to keep the feature enabled. For fast aircrafts Like the Daher TBM930, Pilatus PC-21 trainer, fighter jects or choppers it worth enabling smart smoothing over busy terrain at very low attitudes, but for normal flights, for maximum clarity and sharpness, better leave it off. As far as comfort, this unit is a mixed bag. It is incredibly big, almost intimidating, and covers one's entire face! Because it covers my nose as well, it tends to fog up very easily, and I have to remove the headset several times to clear it out, until it warms up enough to eliminate fogging. It takes lots of attempt of adjustment to make it the most comfortable, and once that's done, it can be worn for hours without much of any discomfort. The 120 Hz refresh rate is a Godsent. It took me a year to be able to use the Reverb when I started, I was hit with motion sickness so powerful that I felt sick even the next day. The high refresh rate of the Crystal Light helps to completely eliminate any residues that I still suffered occasionally time to time, when simulated real time weather conditions and some turbulence effects. While not a perfect product, the team's attempt and effort to fill the void Micro$oft left in the wake of deprecating its own VR portal, is greatly appreciated. Hopefully they will be successful and are here to stay. I cannot recommend this headset strongly enough for other potential armchair pilots, who are looking for superhigh resolution crystal clear VR solution to upgrade their existing deprecated ones or just getting ready to immerse into the VR flight realm for the first time, without mortgaging their homes for a Somnium VR1 or other super expen$ive units out there. The seamlessly working standalone software independent from Steam VR (though it is supported and featured if one chooses to install it) and any other standard platforms, plus the solid performance of the VR headset with incredibly stable tracking is difficult, if not impossible to beat at this price point! Kudos to the team at Pimax for their work and dedication!

Defective headset, unfair return policy
I bought the Pimax headset and it worked for about one week. My mistake was throwing away the box to save space. When I returned the headset, Amazon did not want to give me a full refund, which is unfair because the headset is in perfect condition, almost like new, but it stopped working and would no longer turn on. I contacted IT support and they said the issue might be with the sensor. Overall, I cannot recommend this product. In the end, I purchased the Quest 3 — maybe the quality is lower, but at least you have the security of being able to return it without the risk of losing your money if it turns out defective.

Amazing Visuals, Perfect for Simulators
Don't believe the haters! I’m SERIOUSLY impressed with this headset. The image quality is fantastic - huge resolution, awesome lens, vibrant colors, and with zero screen-door effect. The wide field of view makes everything feel incredibly immersive, especially in simulators, and the high resolution makes a huge difference if you have the hardware to push all those pixels. Yes, it's a bit on the heavier and bulky side, but honestly, that doesn’t matter much when playing seated games like flight or racing sims. And there are various mods to make it significantly more comfortable! You can't really get all these specs and in particular the huge, excellent lens, without the slight bulkiness. For the level of visual clarity you get, it’s absolutely worth it. Easy 5 stars!

DECEPTIVE PRICING STAY AWAY!!!!
First off, my unit didn't work. That's just the beginning of the issues I have with Pimax. The product listing shows a purchase price for the hardware, but the headset is not usable unless I pay an additional $249 “subscription” fee. But if you look at the first line in the description, it isn't even called a subscription, it's called a 2-Step payment. ABSOLUTE DECEPTION! This is misleading for two reasons: The device is hardware, not a service. Calling this a “subscription” is deceptive because it functions as a mandatory unlock fee to make the product usable. Amazon’s Product Detail Page rules require that all essential costs to use a product be disclosed up front as part of the total price. This listing creates the impression that the headset is fully functional at the advertised price, when in reality customers cannot use it without paying hundreds of dollars more. This violates Amazon’s Product Authenticity and Listing Accuracy policies as well as basic consumer transparency standards.

Best option if you can't afford the crystal super
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Crystal light dope. Fov: Fov not too bad coming from 8kx. Doesn't give the annoying binocular feeling my quest 2 did. It's actually only noticeable when loading into games imo. Once the game starts and your eyes have something to focus on, your brain tunes out the black walls in peripheral from smaller fov imo and I barely even noticed the difference. I'm excited for my crystal super bc I think the slightly increased fov will be enough to make the difference in fov from 8kx completely unnoticeable. Tracking: I was worried about tracking cause everybody complaining on this sub. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the tracking worked great. The setup process was easier than I was expecting and it didn't need to be reset every time I used it like I heard. I did need to reset it periodically but it's super easy and fast. Tracking wasn't as good as quest 2 but better than valve base station imo. Had some problems with controllers behind head (which when do u actually do that other than testing really?) and when holding up really close to face. But more importantly it didn't lose tracking on my head or cause my game to flip me around like my index base stations would. Overall I'd give tracking a solid B grade. Controllers: feel pretty good. USB C charging awesome. Hold charge pretty well. Fit into my quest 2 grips with index like straps. Only complaint is the joy stick had a strange sound when rolling at the bottom. Kinda sounds like a spring. I'm worried that the joy stick might break after awhile like all my index controllers have. But God willing they won't. Comfort: Good, I like the pimax head straps for the most part since I learned how to wear them properly. Would be nice if the tightening knob was flush for laying down or headrest. Also I noticed the crystal light tended to tilt left on my head sometimes unlike my 8kx. Audio: Again surprising good considering people's complaints. I thought the SMAS was adequate. They could be louder is the main flaw imo. Pretty much got a rock it at 100%. I have the DMAS as well. Which are better sounding and louder. But I also like the SMAS bc it's nice not having something on your ears. Picture: Great! Best picture I've had on a headset to date. Significantly shaper and better colors than the 8kx. Blacks look great in dark scenes as well. Don't feel a need for an oled but I also haven't tried one since the OG vive and I Samsung Odyssey+. No problems with the screens that I could tell like mura or major distortions or anything like that. I had no trouble finding and staying in the sweet spot and I could move my eyes around without too much distortions except the very edges which I don't really tend to do except when testing. The only thing I noticed at one point was what I would maybe describe as screen tearing when I first got it in very specific scenarios. But idk if I got used to it or it went away but I didn't notice it after awhile. Overall If this was my first headset I can't even imagine how amazed I'd be. VR truly has come along way. Congrats pimax.

Best pair yet...
These are the 6th pair of VR headset I have purchased. It started with the Valve Index, Reverb GT, Then my favorite (until now) Varjo Aero, After that I purchased the Pimax Crystal that of course comes with a battery and is just a real heavy headset. I then ended up buying the Varjo XR-4 for the inflated price of $6000 which were the worst set I ever bought and had to pay Hell to send them back. The other day I decided to buy the Pimax Crystal light and I now have my favorite pair for sure. The clarity and comfort are outstanding! It is really a lot like the Crystal but about a third of the weight. I can spend hours flying across the US and never feel like I need a break. This is all about the product. If you want to talk about Pimax Customer Service it would be a one or maybe a two at best. If you get a good pair that works you are doing great. If you need Customer Service...... Good luck... My reason for that is back on March 16th of this year I ordered a pair of the Pimax Crystal Super that was supposed to be delivered in June that didn't happen. I reached out to Pimax 3 times in an email and have never gotten an answer.

Incredible screen, not so incredible caveats
So, I got this as a replacement for my rift S and because I didn’t like the compression and jank from my quest 2. I know it’s far different than the two in terms of specs and pricing, but I’m going to use the quest 2 as a comparison. For one, the screen is unmatched to the quest w. Massive field of view, incredible resolution, fast refresh rate, etc. it just looks amazing and it’s obviously the best feature of it. Definitely helps that it uses a DisplayPort and usb 3.0 for bandwidth. For sound, it’s passable but definitely worse than the quest 2. I know this isn’t really a big focus point for most people, but it’s just ok at best and a bit tinny when there’s a lot of mids playing. Probably can be fixed with headphones, but just my food for thought. As for tracking, this thing falls way short compared to the quest 2. Don’t take off the headset for 5 or so minutes in the middle of a game, as the guardian will seemingly shift 10 feet away from you, and redoing the guardian shuts off steamvr, so any game you were playing just closed. Controller tracking is alright but it gets lost really easily when slightly covered. More-so, trying to aim down sites with a gun in a shooting game can send the controller into a fit and jitters it away from your face if you hold it closer to your shoulder. I’ve also had issues in some games where the headset tracking will seemingly lag a second or two behind, and this isn’t an issue with my system not being fast enough or running out of ram. I’m sure most of this could all be fixed by using base stations/lighthouses, but that requires you to get a $200 faceplate, along with the $100-200 - each mind you- steamvr or htc lighthouse. For comfort, it’s fine. Nothing crazy, but definitely front heavy and you’ll feel it in your face and neck after an hour or two. One final note for anyone in case it wasn’t clear, you need to either pay an additional $250 or $12 a month for 2 years in order to use this headset. It does mention it once in the listing, but I think it should be far more clear that this is the case, as I missed it even after doing extensive research. Overall, I really want to like it, but I should’ve just gone for a quest 3. I know this is a significantly smaller company than oculus/meta, and going by other reviews I’m probably using this wrong- most people praise it for simulator games instead of just an all-in-one pcvr headset- but from the listing it sounded like the perfect and better rift s replacement and it just isn’t.

Purchased new but they sent me a used one.
Needless to say, I was very excited to receive this. I purchased a new headset and well... expected a new head set. So the shipping boxes were fine but when I got to the actual box of the headset, it wasn't sealed. My heart did sink a little when the actual box wasn't sealed. When I opened it, well the photos attached is what I received. It's either pet fur or someone hair all in the box. The nose cloths are disgusting as well. ON top of all of it. I wanted to at least see if the head set worked. I can't even see if the headset works or not. Solid red light (which is fine. They all come that way) but the software sees the headset and connects just fine. My free 14 days is not on the headset and I can't even pay to reactivate it. The button does nothing. I did put in a ticket to see if they'll make this right. If they do, maybe I'll revisit this 1 star review. I want to update his review. I got a returned unit from amazon. I want to say this is not Pimax's fault and more lies with a mixup with amazon. However, it left such a bad impression that sadly I will not be repurchasing. For how expensive the item is, the process should be better.

AMAZON....MALE ...MALISSIMO.

Terrible
Paid for a new Pimax crystal light and received a used faulty one, the plastic lense covers were just stuck onto a bubble wrap bag and what I thought were scratches on the left lenses were grease smear marks ( see photo's) the controllers were dead on arrival but I understand they might have needed charging but after an hour only the right controller would charge and the left one was faulty. I did start the headset just to see what all the fuss was about regarding pimax headsets and the headset is so uncomfortable and bulky, the cable is so heavy it pulls you head to the left and puts pressure on your neck , the spherical lenses make you feel dizzy and I really do not like them and compared to the Quest 3 they simply are not as good.... period!!! And for more than twice the price!! The screen door IS visible and with the lenses not being that good it actually degrades the image. I did understand before I bought the Pimax that there has been some Quality control issues and was like a lottery if you was sent a new working headset and that's why I bought from Amazon as back up but I still ended up with a second hand headset and for all that money!!!!! Disgusting service and I cannot recommend that you use Pimax for your next Vr headset.
