Decent drum sticks!
These are good drum sticks and generally last for around 6 months with full time use (2 to 4 gigs per week). The packaging was way over the top and wasteful though!

Not just for Jazz!
I play in a rock/metal band and I'm a very hard hitter. After years of using 2B or 5A sticks because they lasted well and put up with the abuse, I tried out these "for a laugh". I wasn't laughing long because although they felt like pencils to begin with, I could play that extra 5% faster because (plain, simple physics) they are lighter. The piston in an F1 racing engine is very light so it can go up and down at ridiculous speeds - same applies here. You can accelerate these sticks much faster and consequently they'll hit the head going faster for a given force than a heavier stick. It works. Now - there's no denying that these don't last as long as a pair of 2B's but in all honesty, I've broken those in less than an hour from new as well so I figured if these lasted 45 minutes into the set but allowed me to play faster licks, it was money well spent. Now I don't bother with the heavier sticks - I just find them cumbersome and just order these by the dozen and if one breaks, I reach for another. So no - these won't last as long as a heavier stick (duh!) but for the time that you do have them - you'll be able to have more dynamics and play that little bit faster and to me that is more important. Each to their own though!

Do not feel like normal Vic Firth 7As
I have been drumming for 25 years and used various drumstick brands. I've always rated Vic Firth sticks but these packs of 4 pairs do not feel anything like my normal pairs. I still have several older pairs of 7As but these sticks feel much lighter in weight which totally changes their response off of electronic meshes and from acoustic drum skins, as well as their durability. They just don't feel as dense as previous stick purchases. The finish of the sticks is also rougher than any other pair I've owned, with small wooden splinters or burrs along the entire stick on each pair all the way to the acorn tips. The colour is much lighter than previous pairs too and looks much whiter compared to the darker colour of previously purchased Vic Firth sticks. Not sure if they are genuine, but certainly look like they should have been seconds or rejected.I had a recent gig where I didn't trust these to be durable enough so stuck with my older pairs instead. In future I will be buying my sticks in person to check on quality.
