Everybody needs a nice cheap tool set. Even me!
I have a LOT of tools. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating, I have LITERALLY TONS of tools. So why would I be excited by a cheap set of tools for general house repair? Have I lost my mind?Like I said... I have tools... SnapOn, Mac, Matco at the top end... Lot's of 'em. They are used in my garage shop for general vehicle maintenance. I have Kobalt, Husky, Craftsman and others in my other toolboxes in a general workshop area of my barn.SO MANY TOOLS.... BUT.... If I need to take a tool out of the shop and into my house, and I forget to RETURN it to my shop areas... That can turn into a real headache. I HATE looking for my tools if they have been misplaced. If I need to toss some tools into the truck to go help a friend... the good tools gotta stay home. I don't want to lose anything of value.SO, what should I take? This little toolkit is just perfect for travel away from home. The tools are GOOD ENOUGH for fixes on the fly. Ya got a boat? Have you ever dropped a wrench in the drink? I used to have a boat... and I used to have a LOT of tools that are sitting on the bottom of lake Ontario. Expensive tools that are gone forever. There are some really crappy tool kits that could work for this purpose. This one is less crappy than most, in fact, they are actually pretty good. And the selection is very very useful. You can do a lot of repairs with these tools.Compared to SnapOn tools, these tools would get, like, one star. But that would be foolish because anybody that expects a 5 star review from a one star tool, well, they are not living in reality. So why am I giving this 5 stars? Because they are VERY GOOD cheap tools. They are still very basic tools, but they are a great value for cheap basic tools. The pliers work well, the ratchet works well, the screw drivers are not junk. It's a decent tool kit for the home owner and its a nice kit for traveling about. Are they great tools? Nah... they are just OK. But as a general kit, well it's a great, well-thought out kit. The stuff you need is in there. There are MUCH worse tools on the market, and there are MUCH BETTER also. These will get the job done, the selection is adequate AND it's a really fair price for what you get. The case is decent.I don't WANT to give these tools any less than 5 stars because if what you need is a basic set of tools, for whatever reason, these represent a 5 star value. I'm done apologizing for giving cheap tools a 5 star review. If ya need a nice tool kit that can get a lot of work done, go for it. You can do a whole lot worse, or you can spend the same money on better tools and get a whole lot fewer. In contrast, I have paid the same amount as this kit sells for for ONE... count it... ONE, SnapOn socket. Without the ratchet.Try hanging a picture with ONE SnapOn socket... not happening.

Good set for non-professional or occasional use
This is a neat set with the variety of tools it has. I thought the hammer felt lightweight, but solid. The saw frame wasn't straight, so don't expect to get perfectly straight cuts with this. But if all you are doing is cutting a pipe, for example, then it won't matter. The handles on the tools feel like a cheap plastic, but they are thick, so they wierdly feel solid and cheap at the same time. I used the ratchet to remove a bolt from a piece of trim off my car that was falling off. It worked fine. The handle on the case locks down and helps hold the case together. In spite of this, you can close the case and if everything isn't perfectly where it's supposed to go it will still not be sealed all the way around. I've unlatched the 2 latches several times and then struggled to get the case open until I realized that I hadn't moved the handle out. So it really has 3 latches. I sort-of like that feature, and just feel dumb for continuing to forget that the handle is locking it closed as well as the latches. You want to keep the piece of foam that comes in the middle, and make sure that you open the case with the top up. If you open it with the bottom up most of the tools (including all the sockets) are going to come spilling out and you'll have a mess to put everything back together. The wire cutter pliers don't close all the way, so I don't think they will work well to strip wires. But I haven't tried them yet in actual wire stripping use, however. Overall it's a decent set of tools and I echo what some other reviewers have said in that it's a good set to have in the home so you don't have to worry about returning your nice garage tools back to the shop/garage. For in-home use it's going to be great. Just don't expect this set to be a professional set that will be flawless for you. As long as you know you are getting what you are paying for it's fine.
