If you must have one thermos, this is the one you want!
If you must have one thermos, this is the one you want!I carried the lifetime warrantied Stanley thermos for years and, while Stanley always replaced their no longer working thermos, I usually only got about one year out of each Stanley thermos before I had to send it in for replacement. This is inconvenient and doesn't speak well of their product quality.Since moving to the Thermos 61 ounce thermos about 4 years ago, I have never looked back. Not only do I still use the original thermos every day, I bought 3 more to use for camping trips. I have also purchased 2 more of these thermoses and given them as gifts. These are the real deal.I still fill my original thermos up with a fresh pot of coffee every morning and I drink from it all day long. The next morning, my 1st cup of coffee comes from the previous day's leftover coffee while the new pot is brewing. The day old coffee is always the perfect temperature...not too hot, perfect for drinking right away. Again, this is every day and using the (now) 4 year old thermos....amazing! Once the new pot is made, I pour the leftover coffee into a large cup, refill the thermos with new coffee and top it off with leftover cover. The stopper/pour spout works very well and minimizes heat loss while refilling my coffee cup during the day. It's a very functional part of the whole thermos experience!!If I have any complaint, it's that the lid/cup is not useful for coffee. It does, however, serve as an excellent bowl for hot soup. I am not put off by this at all as I have used the thermos to hold hot soup and the lid/cup has been perfect for that use, but my main use for the thermos is as a coffee urn, so the lid/cup is less of a positive. If you do use the lid/cup for coffee, the coffee cools a bit too fast.I consider this thermos one of the most useful and best products I've ever purchased. If you need a large thermos, BUY THIS ONE! You will not regret it!!

Great, and great big, thermos!
Kept coffee hot for TWO days, not just the one that was advertised, when preheated with boiling water. It is truly enormous and heavy so if you want to keep it wieldly and have something easy to carry around for something other than outdoorsy work or feeding an army you may consider getting something smaller. It only has two actual cons. It is prone to denting a little bit I think, because I've treated it very gently (I'm a diminutive woman whose idea of big adventure is driving to the gym) and I somehow managed to dent it very slightly on something I have no idea about. However! It does not affect functionality at all, so really, not a big deal at all.The other is how difficult it is to clean it when necessary. It is not prone to anything sticking to the inside, but one day some coffee accidentally got left in there for a few days (gross!) and even though I rinsed it out THOROUGHLY with boiling water and then again with Dawn detergent and finally vinegar and baking soda, my emergency standby, it still smelled. Invest in a long bottle cleaner if you get this, and ALWAYS rinse it well as soon as you're done using it. No stars off because this is not about the quality of the product, merely the nature of something so big and impossible to reach into to clean with normal means. Careful!

Decent, LARGE, Thermos - but Plastic? C'mon
***I tested Thermal loss and have updated the results below***(This review will be updated as time progresses)61oz Matte Black ThermosInitial Review/Delivery Day:Thermos comes w/ no box, but packaged well by Amazon.Retail sticker affixed to body of Thermos - easily removable (including Made In China & barcode stickers on bottom).Outer shell, handle, cup/lid (inside and out) are solid plastic - no metal on exterior or exposed.Collapsible, hinged plastic handle lays flat along body, opens enough for reasonable grip with large hands.Removable, adjustable webbed shoulder strap (5/8" wide) attaches via plastic clips that snap in to base of handle, top and bottom.Flat "pads" for laying flat on table molded in to plastic body, opposite handle.Matte Black finish - does not appear to scratch/marr or mark easily (fingernail test).Stopper is solid plastic with (2) rubber gaskets/o-rings. 36mm. Molded "Pour" arrow indicators on head of stopper.Inner casing is Stainless Steel, (1) vertical seam - solid weld, appears well made, 1 more gasket/o-ring inside neck.-Notes/Thoughts and Instructions:Rather disappointed in the plastic shell. I am accustomed to the all metal Green Thermos that has finally given up the ghost after ~20yrs of hard service. The plastic pieces on the lid/cup do not align very well, but is a minor annoyance. The Thermos is Large. It can hold near 12cups of coffee (full coffee pot), and the lid is large enough for a soup lunch. The strap is narrow, and w/ the plastic clips, concerns me as to life expectancy and comfort. I may fibertape the strap for comfort when I have to carry for long periods of time. Adjusts from (just over) handle length to shoulder-carry w/ base meeting beltline/hips (on my 6ft frame).5yr warranty - for a plastic body, thats pretty good/optimistic.Per instructions: top-shelf dishwasher safe, but note- dishwasher detergents are harsh, may contain chlorine, use hot water and heat-dry.. All which can distort, fade and crack plastic. I recommend hand washing with mild dishsoap and warm water with a bottle brush, rack/air dry.Inner casing is (puurrrrrty) stainless (SS) with a rubber gasket/o-ring at the opening, and full-weld vertical seam. There is what appears to be a SS "plug" at the bottom (press fit?) which I will have to watch for rusting. Otherwise, appears well made.Handle us a double-hinged, offset-center folding handle that sits flush to body when collapsed. 1 1/8" wide and 3/8" thick, feels sturdy and comfortable to hold w/ thick hands. The plastic hinges concern me for life expectancy.Per instructions (if you don't already do this, then you've never used a Thermos correctly), fill thermos with hot water (tap) and rest 5-10 minutes. This heats the insulation and SS, ensuring your beverage stays piping hot all day/night/shift, even when taken outdoors. You can extend this further in the following way: Run a pot of clear water (no coffee) through your coffeemaker. Fill thermos, start brewing a fresh pot of coffee. When coffeemaker finishes, empty Thermos and refill with your fresh coffee. My previous Thermos would keep my coffee and soup piping (steaming) hot for OVER 24 hours using this method. Think about it: The heat required to warm the insulation and casing cools your beverage when initially poured in, including "thermal shock-loss" from the cold SS casing. The insulation is meant to -retain- heat, not reflect, so heat it up before use.All in all, I would say it is a good buy. I had hoped for a bit better exterior construction - I have never put much faith in plastic, so time will tell. I will update with any issues.**12hr update**I have tested the Thermos to see how much thermal loss this Thermos has.At 2300hrs I filled the Thermos with 12c (1 coffee pot) of Hot water from my coffee maker to warm the Thermos.I immediately started a new pot of water.Once the coffee maker was done, I emptied the Thermos and refilled with the fresh pot, took temp (189.4°F) with a digital thermometer, sealed and set aside. Room has ambient temp of 76°.At 1100hrs (12 hours resting), I opened/removed stopper and took temp: 149°F. A loss of 40° .This is still hot/steaming, however, if I had left the Thermos sitting outdoors, at 45° ambient, how much more would it have lost in the same amount of time?I will test outdoor temp-loss this evening and will update.**UPDATE: Outdoor rest @ 45° (evening low): starting temp 191° @ 20:00hrs - 143° @ 08:00hrs - temp loss of 48°. Still plenty hot!**12hr shifts -Day 1 (Office): Ambient temp of 74°191° at 04:30hrs (commute~20m)Remaining coffee @ 17:45hrs (~2cups) reads 136°Day 2 (2hrs office-74°/10hrs car-70°+/-):190.6° @ 04:30hrs (commute~20m)30m in office - 10hrs car - 1h30m office138.2° @ 18:00hrsFinal Thoughts:Again, this thermos is very Large. Pouring coffee in a car proved to be an excersize in either gymnastics or yoga, trying to work aroung gear, equipment, steering wheel and the seat adjustment limits. My truck was a bit easier. For me, this works well. Holda plenty of coffee, keeps it piping hot regardless of where it sits (vehicle, outdoors or in office).I remain concerned over the plastic construction and dread the thought of dropping it.All in all I would say a decent buy.
