Walking the Camino is an up-close look at one of humanity's most time-honored traditions. By following pilgrims from all walks of life as they attempt to cross an entire country on foot with only a backpack, a pair of boots and an open mind, we witness the Camino's magnetic and miraculous power to change lives. Driven by an inexplicable calling and a grand sense of adventure, each pilgrim throws themselves heart-and-soul into their physical trek to Santiago and, most importantly, their personal journey to themselves. 500 miles on foot. Bunk-beds. Blisters. Stunning landscapes. World-class snorers. Hot searing sun, freezing cold rain. Kindness from strangers. Debilitating injury. Unexpected romance. No toilet paper when you really need it. Profound grief and deep doubt. Hunger. Laughing with new friends. Total exhaustion. You are guaranteed to experience all of this when walking the ancient pilgrim path, the Camino de Santiago.

Excellent and Realistic Portrait of the Camino de Santiago
We of course watched The Way (Martin Sheen) many times. The inspiration led us to go to Spain and walk the last 105km of the Camino de Santiago and obtain the Compostela. Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago was recommended to us before we went, but we ran out of time to order it. After we returned we ordered and watched it. It is excellent - more realistic in portraying the pilgrims journey and the trials, tribulations and excitement than The Way. I would highly recommend it for anyone thinking about walking the Camino or who have returned and want to remember what it was like.

Very good documentary.
I enjoyed the documentary very much. The extra features were rather repetitive, however.

I enjoyed it; but wasn't exactly what I thought it ...
I enjoyed it; but wasn't exactly what I thought it would be and a little dull in a few places; but a decent watch if your interested in the subject. That poor little kid being forced to go with his mom. I can't imagine too many little kids who'd enjoy doing this and can't imagine any adult who'd want to push a stroller the length of the Camino--just bizarre. If you're into hiking or like spiritualism/nature--you'll most likely enjoy it.

Inspiring
Outstanding documentary. I have been a big fan of The Way, but this takes the Camino story to a different level. Real and engaging characters with great personal stories combined with excellent cinematography. It has inspired me to walk part of the Camino. Highly recommended.

Documentary, not fiction
Film maker did a great job, people are engaging, and get a feel for the Camino. Really cool. Feels more like the Camino than "The Way" duh

Inspiring and uplifting
Last summer I vacationed in and around Santiago de Compostela and witnessed the many pilgrims entering the square. This video was exceptional in telling the stories of some of those pilgrims. It made me want to put on my hiking boots and make my own pilgrimage. Uplifting.

This is a wonderful documentary for the serious planner
This is a wonderful documentary for the serious planner. I haven't walked the Camino yet, but this is just what I thought it would be like. I'm ready to tackle "The Way".

Enlightening
I have been walking the Camino in stages for the last four years. I am taking my time and as a consequence am still about 220 kms short of Santiago. I find is it is very difficult to explain the impact that the Camino can have and how it can change your outlook and approach to life. This film comes very close to delivering that explanation, although I do wonder whether that's because I have been there, done that, got the t-shirt etc.(well almost). I found it very enlightening, particularly in relation to the spiritual and psychological aspects of the walk. Well worth watching by anyone who has walked or intends to walk the Camino. I would also say that it is companion viewing to 'The Way' - not a substitute, or a replacement. Watch both.

Who got the most from the journey?
An interesting DVD which showed 6 people of different backgrounds doing the Camino (there were more initially, but only six made the cut) and I'm not sure if they all did the full distance, but it gave a reasonably good view of the journey, mostly on well marked paths My only critique is it didn't really show the tough bits of the route at the start, especially the young lady with her child in a pushchair, I'm not sure if they tackled that part of it.But having said that I felt she was the one who got the most from the journey - more focussed. In the interview later the director said some viewers had complained of the foot shots and blisters - that's what long distance walking is about, it takes time to toughen up - you get blisters. Still; an interesting mix of people, but didn't really show how tough it was. more like an extended holiday (which was not quite the intention). Got me through a wet afternoon but didn't make me want to grab my walking boots. Interestingly quite a number of the walkers wore lightweight shoes or went barefoot, so I guess they did toughen up, and credit to them all if they did the distance

Beautiful film
I have walked the Camino and found this a very sensitively filmed documentary, focusing on 6 people's "stories" as they walked....Beautiful.But don't just watch it - get out to Spain and walk it for a life changing experience you will never regret.

Watch before you walk the camino
Very good. Better than a public viewing as the extras tell you what happened to the pilgrims after the pilgrimage ended. Very enjoyable for someone like me who has already walked the camino a couple of times and very informative for those wishing to go on their first one. Have watched it three times already
