Excellent bluray in great condition

I just got this a couple days ago. I haven't watched it yet, though. But I will later. I have heard good things about it. I'm glad I got it, because I was worried about the new address I added. And now it arrived at my doorstep a couple days ago.Overall, despite having not watched it, I'm pleased with it, because it's a Western and it's gonna with the rest of my Western collection. Plus, it's John Wayne.

I love John Wayne and some of his movies hes in dont have good writers but when he started to get more and more movies made the story lines improved too. If your a western fan this is a fantastic movie to watch .

No matter what you say.. I love ..John Wayne. I have seen this movie once before like 15 years back on cable..? John Wayne is the King of Westerns and Clark Gable was the melodrama emperor of Old Hollywood. First of all the script was decent..the supporting cast were a perfect mix. During those years they filmed movies in Mexico,Arizona and California..if you read the credits. John Wayne was a rather tall gent...with a brash look that made women swoon. Dean Martin did a wonderful job..playing one of the brother's ...the bit in the bar..and the scam with the glass eye. If that doesn't lighten your load... Earl Holliman who's still alive plays one of the brother's .. is now 92 years old. Micheal Anderson Jr.. was played by British...Yes I said a british...actor. ..he's 77 years old. Those are the only cast member's that are still alive... Can you imagine spending all that time on location ..riding horses and doing all that shooting,,retakes ..and sleeping in trailor's..I guess ? Well ..I could... ! The blonde gal was played by the beautiful Martha Hyer... such a classy lady ... she died in 2014 at the age of 89... The costume's were simply perfect ..John Wayne always wore a hat... with a scarf that made him look ..more menacing ...to this character ... Matter of fact that was his trademark..! The only man that comes close to him is Clint Eastwood in western's..

Great movie

I waited a long time for this one to go to blu ray and its well worth it. The movie has always been one of my favorites of John Wayne westerns with supporting cast of Dean Martin, George Kennedy and other great actors with a fun story that gets better over the years that is good clean wholesome entertainment for the whole family. It looks even more stunning and clearer sound and just an overall pleasurable experience. This is what a movie is supposed to do of taking your mind off the drudgery of the real world. Every time I watch I see something else I did not see other times. Sit back and enjoy with a bowl of popcorn in the comfort of your own home.

As a long-time fan of the Duke, I have been gradually replacing my old copies of his films with new, restored editions on Blu-Ray. "The Sons of Katie Elder" is one of the Duke's films that is always tremendously entertaining, without being an actual classic of the genre. It is also one of the few films he made after 1950 that have not had a restored Blu-Ray release. (When will we get Blu Ray releases of "Island in the Sky", and more importantly "The High and the Mighty", "The Wings of Eagles", "The Alamo" and "Donovan's Reef"?). Having said this, the Blu Ray release has a much improved picture and sound quality, and is as entertaining as ever: perhaps even more so today in the context of the often cgi heavy and almost interchangeable nature of so many of the latest films being released. A fine cast, lots of Wayne regulars in supporting roles, and a wonderful early appearance by the great George Kennedy. Wayne, as usual, plays Wayne: and he does so splendidly, as always.They just don't make them like this anymore. Sadly, Paramount does not include any Special Features whatsoever: not even the usual Theatrical Trailer (which was included on their DVD release, albeit with poor picture quality). Perhaps there aren't any surviving materials suitable for inclusion. In which case, a "Commentary" might have been welcomed in lieu.

出演∶ジョン･ウェイン、ディーン･マーティン、アール･ホリマン、マイケル･アンダーソン Jr. 、マーサ·ハイヤー、ジョージ·ケネディ、ジェームズ·グレゴリー、デニス·ホッパー、ポール·フィックス、ストローザー・マーティン 、ロドルフォ·アコスタ監督∶ヘンリー･ハサウェイ原題は『The Sons of Katie Elder(ケイティ･エルダーの息子たち)』である。テキサスに住むケイティ･エルダーという女性が死に、その葬儀のために、家を飛び出して久しい４人の息子たちが帰ってくるところから話は始まる。息子たちが久々に帰ってみると、母だけでなく、父もしばらく前に何者かに背中から撃たれて死んでいた。両親のものだったはずの牧場の土地は、町を牛耳るヘイスティングズという大牧場主兼武器製造業者のものになっていた。……と、この設定だと誰もが、ヘイスティングズの悪事による土地の略奪と、それに対するエルダー兄弟の痛快復讐譚を期待するに違いないし、実際そういう展開になる。話が始まった時点では、まだ父の死の真相は判明していないのだが、主人公たち兄弟はヘイスティングズの陰謀と決めつけている。一方、ヘイスティングズの方も、兄弟に復讐されるものと決め込んでいて、それに備えて殺し屋ガンマンを雇ったりしている。さらに、犯罪に過敏な性分の保安官助手が、過去に問題の多い兄弟や殺し屋ガンマンが何か騒ぎを起こすに違いないと踏んで、手ぐすね引いて事件が起きるのを待っている。つまり何も起きないうちから、当事者双方と治安維持担当者が復讐劇の機運を盛り上げて、火のないところに放火するような"マッチポンプ"的展開になっていく。悪く言えば､主要人物たちが皆､「よせばいいのに」という方向に邁進して事件を大きくしてしまっているような……。まぁ､事件が大きくならないと映画は成り立ちませんけどね。ちょっと回りくどいような気もするが、ひたすら単純な展開の勧善懲悪復讐劇が多い西部劇を作り飽きて、｢少しひねりを加えてみました｣ってところでしょうか……。｢ひねり｣と言えば、この映画、物語にはまったく登場しない母ケイティ･エルダーの存在が影の主役になっているのが新機軸と言えるのではないだろうか。そのへんの異色の構成をもう少し工夫した方が新味が強調されたような気がするのですが……まぁ､この程度にとどめておいて正解だったのかもしれないが……。しかし、ジョン･ウェインが映画の中心にいるだけで、安心して見ていられるのが不思議だ。もちろん彼の主演作の中にも駄作はあるのだが、良くも悪くも｢西部劇は、かくあるべし｣みたいな信念が強く打ち出されていて、それが安心感を生むんでしょうね。ジョン･ウェインとディーン･マーティンの『リオ･ブラボー』コンビが主演なのも安心感の要因のひとつかな。脇役も、『ガンヒルの決斗』『折れた槍』のアール·ホリマン､『ダンディー少佐』『栄光の野郎ども』のマイケル·アンダーソンＪr.､『赤い河』『エル·ドラド』のポール·フィックス､『リバティ·バランスを射った男』『ワイルドバンチ』のストローザー・マーティン､『誇り高き男』『許されざる者('60)』のロドルフォ·アコスタ､『OK牧場の決斗』のデニス·ホッパーなど、有名西部劇でお馴染みの顔ぶれが揃っていて、安心感を醸し出しているのかも……。
