An affordable gem - professional quality at student prices - in simulated Rosewood finish
[Note: Picture shown does not reflect the true colour of the YRS-312B which is a rich warm reddish brown colour.] This recorder uses the Baroque (not German) Fingering convention widely used in most countries esp the commonwealth. +: Produces beautiful warm sonorous tones ... reliable intonation and highly responsive - a joy to play ++ much more. Easy to maintain - washable. Durable. High standards of manufacture guarantee consistent homogeneous quality between each instrument - you can be confident what you are purchasing. Selection becomes a non issue. Losses can be replaced by simply purchasing another one and you will know that you will be purchasing similar performance capability. Professional quality made affordable to the masses. -: Does clog somewhat after extended play but the instrument can be prepped beforehand with anti-clog solution available from recorder specialist. This was provided to me when I purchased the YRT 304B but I haven't used it yet. I am very happy with my purchase of the Yamaha YRS, YRA 314B and 316B (yes I purchased all four) which I think is at par with branded wooden recorders 6-10 times the price. A great second instrument or spare for travelling. I can personally attest that it is true that the simulated woodgrain finish versions YRS 314 & 316 (strangely enough) produce a superior tone to the normal ABS resin finish 302 model - perhaps this is due to the outer coating that resonates better. For not a lot more, the simulated wood-grain version IS well-worth paying for. YRS 312B in simulated Rosewood has a rich warm reddish brown colour whilst YRS 314B in simulated Ebony is a quieter yellow brown - both with attractive printed woodgrain finish. Yamaha did a real service to the world by making this attractive gem so affordable.

Extremely pleased
Yamaha is such a reliable brand! I am a new player and I decided to order a soprano recorder that was budget friendly, but I admit I was nervous about it. It definitely *can* sound bad if I blow too hard or if my hands aren't positioned right, as would any recorder, but it sounds so sweet and wonderful when I get everything right. It feels and looks like a quality instrument even though it's plastic. The color is very pretty. I'm in love with it already. What a wonderful recorder to start my journey with.

Beautiful Tone
This recorder is an excellent musical instrument. It has a beautiful sound. It comes excellently packaged with a case to hold it. It is better than the picture. I highly recommend this for beginners and seasoned musicians.

Yamaha Soprano Recorder
This is a very well-made instrument. The sound quality is quite good, especially for a student recorder. I'm very pleased with this instrument.

Excellent recorder not too expensive
Yamaha soprano recorders are excellent value for the money. Baroque fingering, A440, so you can play with any modern ensemble. Simulated rosewood is cute, but everyone knows it is plastic.😉 You have to spend a lot of money to get a recorder that is significantly better sounding.

The perfect upgrade from the 20 series
I'm not a professional musician. I just play w/ friends and in church but this thing sounds wonderful. I had been playing the YRS-24B for about 6 months when I decided to splurge (if that's even the right word for a $20 recorder) for the next model up. Both are made from the same plastic which makes them very durable and dishwasher safe. It also reduces the maitenance of the recorder. The most obvious physical difference is the rosewood finish which looks very nice in real life. The picture on Amazon didn't quite do it justice. The other major difference between the 20 series and the 300 series is the arched aperture and the reduced volume of the mouthpiece. This makes it generally harder to force air through the recorder but also gives you more control over the sound and makes it sound prettier (at least to me). Finally, the 300 series is made in Japan while the 20 series is made in Indonesia. I'm assuming that this means it's produced to a higher standard but this is entirely subjective... I gave the 312B a 5 star rating because it sounds wonderful and I haven't had any problems w/ it.

Good for Ensemble Playing, Excellent Value
Very playable recorder even at the highest end of the range. The tone is very nice -- not as mellow as wood but not sharp either. This is an important advantage over the slightly cheaper Yamaha recorders. I highly recommend it for ensemble playing, particularly because the tuning over the entire range is extremely consistent. It is excellent value for the price.

Learning a recorder is not a common musical habit in India, hence obtaining one isn’t easy. So purchasing a good recorder like Yamaha and somebody to deliver it reliably the original piece in good condition is of paramount importance and Nitrous stores did a good job. It is an excellent beginner Recorder with beautiful finish. Sound is more richer than lower end models of same brand.

This is an excellent recorder to start learning on. The tone and intonation are much better than other cheaper plastic recorders, so you and the people around you become more inclined to let you practice! The matte wood finish also looks so much better than a grubby black plastic one.

Not that I find that recorders sound much differently across the choices, but I must say, that this for a recorder, sounds pretty refined!

Excelente flauta
