Witness Relaxin Test Kit
Witness Relaxin Pregnancy Test Kit 5ctThis is a fabulous kit that does require a BLOOD sample. You can draw it yourself or have it drawn at your Vet, SPIN IT DOWN to get the plasma (the clear liquid at the top) and the two drops that the Relaxin kit requires. It is simple and easy to use if you have the ability to draw your own blood and a centrifuge at home (get one on Ebay cheap!). Your Vet should draw and spin down the blood for you for very little money. The kit has FIVE tests included, and the price is about the same as ONE test at the Vet. Be sure the blood is put in an EDTA or heparnized tube, then separated if your Vet does it for you. He will just put the plasma in a new tube and for $10.00 for the blood draw, you can do the rest of the test yourself. Do NOT order from Entirely Pets as they store the product in the freezer contrary to Sybiotics instructions. I have called them three times and asked them to stop storing inappropriately but they refuse to return my calls. Order it from anyone who stores the product properly, NOT in the freezer.

Maybe Saved my dogs life!
This is the first time I have used this product. I do have access to a centrifuge to spin down the blood. I wanted to test two dogs, one came back neg the other positive. I was confused as I wasn't sure if this was a false pregnancy or I had miscalculated the due date. A positive result lead me to believe the latter, a miscalculated due date. However no pups came no labor either. Then my dog although she was playing, eating and drinking she threw up a few times after eating. I did the test one more time it still showed positive but was a week positive the band was not nearly as dark. Now seeing that She was now two weeks past the due date and no pups, in her case I couldn't feel any puppy movement or pups and with the test, lead me to know that something was very wrong. Pyometra was diagnosed early, my dog was spayed, ovaries, uterus both removed. I brought her home a few hours after her surgery and she is fantastic. This did rule out a false pregnancy in my opinion.

Horrible product
does not work-save your money... I've been breeding dog's for 20 yrs and thought I could save money here. Used this product a couple times and both times my dog's were not pregnant per this test- 3 weeks later my dog's showed sign of being pregnant so took to vet for ultrasound-12 puppies!!!

Disappointed in Accuracy
I researched this product and it's reviews before purchase. I initial used this test on my bulldog at 25 days from last breeding with a negative result. I waited a week(as manufacture recommends) and re-tested with still a negative result. By the 35th day from breeding she was beginning to show signs of pregnancy and after an ultra-sound was confirmed pregnant (by visual and heartbeats). All three tests was preformed by my vet at $15.00 per blood drawl/spin and $35.00 for the ultra-sound.What you should know before purchasing/using this test:The amount of relaxin (serum relaxin level) being produced at the time of the tests depends on the breed, the size of the breed, the size of the litter, LH(luteinizing hormone) surge and when the test is preformed. For example: If the litter is small there may not be enough relaxin being produced to react with the test. The same would be true if it is a small breed or preformed to early.I now believe the best option for my female bulldogs in the future will be an ultra-sound as recommended by my vet.

A Pregnancy Test for Dogs That Works
When you think of trying to determine if a bitch is pregnant, or not, you may think of the easy, widely-advertised human test for prgesterone. That works in people, because progesterone levels drop sharply if pregnancy does not occur. Unfortuantely, progesterone is not an indicator of pregnancy in dogs. Whether a bitch is pregnant or not, her progesterone level remains high for weeks. The Witness test relies on detecting Relaxin, a hormone secreted by developing placentas. The test may detect pregnancy as early as 21 days post-implantation, but early results may be false negatives (she's pregnant but not enough Relaxin is secreted to be detected). The test becomes more and more reliable up to 30 days post-implantation, when it is said to detect 100% of pregnancies. My own experience with a Labrador retriever bitch is that her first test was negative 25 days after artificial insemination. I could not know when implantation occurred, so this test was probably too early. At 30 days post-AI, her pregnancy was detected. I am guessing this date may have been 22-25 days post-implantation.For breeders who use AI, it's very helpful to know if a litter is expected. For pet owners whose girls are accidently bred, it may be useful to know if she will be having puppies. The test kit costs about $100 and includes 5 pregnancy tests.

Works like a charm! So wonderful to have such a great tool that vets don't even have. :)
After one false pregnancy and the customers waiting for pups, I will never whelp another litter without the confirmation of Relaxin. With this, you can test sooner than with a X-Ray or ultrasound so that you can plan for the litter. We are a small breeding kennel of Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and need the early confirmation so that we can relay the information to our waiting list that "Pups are coming"! Relaxin is extremely inexpensive considering the alternatives. I use one test (5 tests included) for each dog at 25 days post tie up. This test has been 100% accurate so far. :) This is not a pee test, you will have to either draw blood yourself and have a vet spin it (proper vial necessary) or the easiest way is to take your dog to the vet and have them draw and spin the blood. The test needs to be done on blood serum. My vet only charges $15 to do this and a tech can do it. Take the blood serum home, pour a nice glass of wine for yourself and follow directions. You will need to drop 2 drops of blood serum, then 2 drops of the Relaxin formula into the test hole, then like a human pregnancy test, watch for the lines. Badda Bang Badda Bing... That easy!
