My initial findings on this product, mate.
Ha ha, geezer. Ten quid? Do I look like I was born yesterday? Hey ho. My last, five year-old, stick - bought for the World Cup 2010 - finally packed up last week, son. Computer said "No". To be fair, it had been on the wrong end of a heavy prang involving a drunken, falling body at an earlier point in it's short life but I'd managed to keep it going by "finessing" it with a pair of pliers, mate.Anyway, I NEED a new tuner because I'm too skint to own a TV or radio and my laptop has a 17" screen and is always on blah...blah...etc.So, a quick search for something similar to replace it brought me to this device as advertised by this seller. I placed the order at approx. 4pm on Sunday afternoon DURING A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND and, despite the estimated delivery date being Thurs 3rd, had the package in my hands at around midday today, Tuesday 1st September. Forty-four hours from pressing "buy" to receiving the package is service not to be sniffed at.Upon unpacking, the only surprise was the MiniDisc (am I missing something here?) supplied which contains the software bundle. No worries- that can dangle in my Kosmic Meditation Gazebo or be used to deflect unwanted birds from my nuts, sunshine. For Heaven's sake, DON'T put it in your CD drive.OK. Onwards. I have an eight year-old laptop, running Vista, which does me quite well. I have access to a roof-top aerial which sits on top of a twenty-foot mast and receives a signal that is boosted by an amp. As I remember, this was the same requirement for the old analogue signal in this area.So I, and anyone else reading this, need to download some software from http://www.augustint.com/en/downloadsoft-9.html .You may get away with just downloading "driver" and double-clicking from your personal "downloads" folder. That will probably work for Windows Media Center. However, if you fancy using the remote, infra-red, doo-dah control, you'll need to download both "driver" and "TotalMedia", dear. I suspect the software is a bit of a mish-mash and that some parts are duplicated on your computer but, hey, this is what worked for me.So, in your "User name" "Downloads" folder you have files named "T205_Driver_XP_WIN8 blah...." for use without the remote control and files named "TotalMedia357375", or something similar, if you require to use the IR (infra-red) remote control on your dongle, missus. Ooo-err. These are compressed files which we'll need to click on in a minute, or two.Next, we connect our aerial (WITH AMPLIFIED SIGNAL) cable to the August Freeview Tuner Stick and extension lead and plug it into an available USB socket, mate.In Vista, for that is my God/Operating System, you will get an annoying message from "The New Found Hardware Wizard". Vista users are well-used to this crud, geezer. It just goes over our heads. Press cancel and then proceed to your DOWNLOAD folder.Err- did I mention cleaning the registry, mate?Whatever. You need to learn these dark arts for yourselves. Now, you need to go back to those files in your "Downloads" folder.Double-click the file named "T205_Driver_XP_WIN8 blah...."Double-click the next bit that pops up and look for "setup" with "application" in the column next to it. Double-click the icon. This is an executable.Next, back in the "Downloads", do exactly the same for the file "TotalMedia357375". Double-click, double-click and double-click the line with "setup" and "application" on the same line. Now we're motoring. Restart your computer, sunshine. My initial musings on this product, geezer:a) It worksb) The user interface is fairly similar to Windows Media Centerc) Using the bundled (downloaded) software is no more resource-heavy than WMCd) I'm receiving 144 FreeView channelse) At some point I got a pop-up informing me that I had two tuners on this computer. Thinking this product was a SINGLE tuner, I wondered if this was just a hangover from a previous installation but, being greedy, I went with "Yes, I have two tuners." All that's done is duplicate channels 1 to 144 as channels 145 to 288.f) I'll just need to get my head around the way the channels are numbered, mate. I've done it before.g) Excellent service and I'm very happy with the product.h) Dave x xj) On old computers, for a quick start-up, kill all unnecessary processes, dear. Keep the one that makes it work. You'll thank me.k) ADDENDUM 2/9/15 Well, you learn something every day, mate. You CAN put those 3.5 inch discs in an older-type CD tray with central fixing. Unless you don't have WMC or an equivalent, just load the drivers, I reckon. The TotalMedia program is not a fun thing to use and, contrary to what the manufacturer says, the remote control 80% works with WMC. Basically, no time-shifting but I can do everything else from my bean bag.

Very, very good but........
I took delivery of the unit a week back or so back & have finally, today, got it working as I had hoped. I hasten to add that this has got nothing to do with the actual functioning of the product, but more to do with the esoterica of wiring it up correctly.I hope this helps:1.) Unless you live on top of the Crystal Place transmitter, the only use you will find for the supplied aerial is as a skewer for toasting marshmallows with! You WILL need to connect this up to a roof top aerial point or possibly a much higher powered portable aerial than that supplied.2.) Do NOT run the product from anything other than you PC's high speed ports. Hubs were a big no, no for me with no picture being visible at all!3.) Use ONLY top quality digital coax cabling. I also had to by a new signal booster as the 15 year old one I did have was not up to the job. Try to keep the run as short as possible.Strangely the big problem I had was with ITV1 & 2, but having today put all the above in place I have a 5 bar rating on both channels. All that said & done, the product is GREAT!!! Exactly what I wanted for a breakfast bar PC to watch the telly & have computer facilities all within the same compact unit. The bundled software is great & apparently worth £50-£60 on it's own, all be it that you seem unable to get support for it.August's (manufactures) support was OK. Phone answered within a couple of rings, but a slightly jaded Chinese lady who spoke the best English I have ever heard, including English people!!! was although helpful, not that useful.

Satisfied
Product does exactly what it's intended for with minimal fuss.Setting up the hardware and software was a breeze on a PC running Windows 7, with an mini-CD installation included and very clear and concise instructions along the way. Overall, the build quality of the hardware is acceptable and one should not expect anything more given the USB dongle's reasonable price. The pack includes the USB dongle itself, extendible aerial, installation CD,instruction manual and credit-card styled remote, which allows for easy navigation through the software. Now, do not expect much from the included aerial. It is possible to tune into a few TV and radio channels with the aerial, but the reception will not always be great and it will not tune in all the channels, unless you live next to a transmission mast! I guess it is useful to have if you want to travel and try and get TV-on-the-go though. I have the dongle connected to wall aerial outlet (itself connected to a rooftop aerial) and was able to tune into all TV and radio channels. The pack does not include an aerial wire to connect to a wall outlet though, but these can be picked up for a couple of pounds if you don't have one.The software is actually fairly 'polished' and very easy to navigate through. There is a full Electronic Program Guide for current and upcoming programs, similar to what is offered with many set-top boxes, and it's also possible to record programs from the guide too. Programs are saved to the computer's hard disc for viewing at a later date.Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reasonable priced solution to get TV on a computer.
