The vendors may know something I don't.Ignoring for the moment the target users of this paint by numbers set, the contents are ideal for learning accuracy in brush strokes and how watercolours can run into each other. There are two blocked canvases printed with the outlines of flowers. The different elements are numbered to match the twelve numbered pots of water colours. Two brushes, not the three advertised, are included along with the fixings to hang one, not both canvases, once the pictures are completed.It is my opinion that these paint by numbers canvases would appeal to a colourist dilettante of any age. One with the inclination to try without being too embarrassed by the results. Both for an adult while being great encouragement for an adolescent, probably pre O-Level. From that point of view they are good value.

At first glance I thought this paint by numbers was incredibly complex and there was no way to paint such fine, jagged shapes accurately. I also couldn't understand why it was pre coloured slightly.I should have held back judging as it all made sense once I got started! The design is complex but very forgiving. As the colours are used to create shade and shadow rather than an exact outline, you are very much forgiven for any crooked painting or smudges. The background colour is also essential as so many areas are too small for numbers but the slight shading guides you to the right colour. For this design I've only used the very thin paintbrush.I love that the set comes with 2 sets of paints and paintbrushes so they can be done in parallel or saved for a different time.Loving the process art even if it will take me weeks to finish!
