Q: How long until one could attempt to paint this?

i'm not sure silicone was meant to be painted. works great around a bathtub as well.

Q: Is this good to fill cracks in shower stall?

Yes I have used it for that but you cannot paint over it.

Q: Can this be used without a caulking gun to fill in nail holes on a wall?

yes, but that would be hard,you need to push it with a screwdriver or hammer
