Now this is a great product. Everything just works. Playback on both kodi and iptv smooth. Get this box and stop messing around with cheap crap.

Excellent Android TV Box
There are a number of excellent written and video reviews of this product, so I won't reiterate their content. I now own 2 of these from Amazon, having used the first for 6 months and been very pleased with it. It takes some work to optimize the performance of the Minix - check out the U8K-Ultra forums. Also, if you use Kodi, check out the Android Kodi wiki. I use the Minix primarily as a canned media player with Kodi, and Kodi's setup is a little tricky to get it right, especially if you have thousands of files. Also, if you have stuttering issues, try tweaking the Kodi caching under the Settings/Services menu and the buffer settings under the Settings/System menu. If you want access to ALL of kodi's settings, make sure you enable the EXPERT option on the left sidebar. One recommendation; while the remote is OK, I much prefer the Logitech K400 Plus Android keyboard as a input device. Also, the Minix is compatible with large hard drives - my 16TB USB connected drives work fine. Sometimes either the touchpad or the keyboard navigation keys quit working. Restarting the Minix solves the problem. Lastly, it would be nice if the Minix was compatible with USB external optical dives. This feature would allow it to completely replace DVD and blu-ray players.

not for retro gaming and Android steambox, capable but incompatible with intended use at purchase
Beware. If you're getting the system because you believe it will run PS2 emulators and original Xbox under Winlator, or even gamehub for running your Steam games under Android, think again. I tried countless different builds of PS2 emulators, I installed retroarch to try and do PlayStation 1 emulation, and I attempted to gamehub. The device Lacks certain essential Android elements for gaming and it refused to even let me install PS2 emulators, and The game hub program was unavailable from the Google Play store, and even if I installed the BIOS under retroarch I couldn't get PS1 emulation to reliably work at all it would just crash out back into retroarch. While the system is technically capable of all sorts of emulation it looks like practically it's pretty much a useless box unless you want streaming services, though it has sufficiently powerful hardware to run basic emulation up to PS2 Dreamcast and maybe original Xbox. Also AI told me it came with two AAA batteries for the remote but that was not true not saying it's the fault of the manufacturer but it would be nice to include the basics to get things working. The interface is a bit convoluted and I wasn't able to get Flauncher support for it either so you're pretty much stuck with the crappy Metro theme. It also appears that the controller is unable to allow you to click on Android pop ups at certain points in time requiring you to switch back to the infrared button mode instead of the air mouse and selector Central button. It looks really nice on paper and as a reasonable price if it would actually operate as technically possible however this is mostly a useless piece of hardware and because you can't root it and because it has a locked bootloader it's pretty much purposeless for anybody who's trying to make an htpc setup for their TV. There is one nice thing about it which is that the easy SMX d10 controller I bought for playing games navigate the Metro interface, but it appears that it may not be properly mapped in Android either because it doesn't have any interface support other than basic d-pad and button selections. It has less features than my Android smartphone, because it's unable to run essential emulator programs. It ended up being easier to screen share my Android tablet to the Google TV I'm using in order to play PS2 games rather than hastoe with the impossibility of the system and the total lack of custom ROMs that might make it more usable and add support later on. In some ways when watching YouTube it was advertised to me as being an equivalent to the Nvidia shield but with more RAM, it's ultimately not even though I've never owned an Nvidia shield I know it's capable of doing all kinds of gaming that this one really cannot hold up to. I'm pretty much giving up on this unit at this point and if it had actually been usable the way I was intending for retro gaming I would have given a five-star review since the hardware is capable of what I was seeking to do it's just a software limitation it appears and also there are compatibility issues with the emulators from the get-go. Spend your money on something better if you're trying to get an Android htpc. And make sure to get a YouTube video of the emulator you're looking for running actually operating on the device, since most of the Minix videos were not feature filled but mainly just trying to advertise its basic capabilities which I would say is all it's capable of at this point. It might make a nice FTP server for your house though or samba if you want to file share and are looking for something to plug in an external solid state drive to and just have it stream your data or movies or music. If all you want is something to play back your 4K or 8K video files from a local storage device on your TV this is a great solution If you want a small all-in-one game system for your kids it's not going to cut the cake I didn't try any other emulators then PS2 and PS1 both using aether and nether SMX2 and the retroarch pcsx rearmed core with bios, and game hub which I also downloaded through APK pure and force installed and it still failed to operate. Not a power user system At this point it looks like you're better off getting a retroid pocket five and putting it in a dock and using that for a gaming system on your TV if you ultimately are looking for those aims. It'll offer everything this does and more, just a little bit less controller friendly interface. And there are tons of Android air mouse remote controls with keyboards on the back so you can use that with any system you don't need to have the Minix special remote

3.5⭐️ “A Beautiful Box That Deserves Better Updates
I’ve been a long-time MINIX user since the Z64 days. I’ve owned the U9-H, the U22-XJ, and now the U8K-Ultra. Unfortunately, it’s disappointing to see that the U8K uses the exact same UI and launcher as the U22-XJ. I purchased this box in September 2024, and it already feels dated — still running Android 11 with only one update in a full year. The only thing it does well is play media content; for everything else, it feels slow and sluggish. Even knowing MINIX has a reputation for abandoning its products, I decided to give it another chance. It’s a shame, because the hardware looks and feels premium — but the overall experience is overpriced and underwhelming. I truly wish MINIX would listen to its users. Otherwise, this will be the last MINIX product I’ll buy.

5 stars for CoreELEC, because it actually works.
The stock OS is basically junk, but for a CoreELEC install where you will overwrite it and use Kodi for playing back your Bluray backups as part of an HTPC, this was *the way* to go for the longest time, with most other boxes being very difficult to deploy to. I tried one of the others and ended up bricking it when trying to deploy to the internal flash drive, but no issues here. With just a few tweaks (persevere, and read their forums or ask the chatbots), you *will* be able to play 4k files back with Atmos and Dolby Vision smoothly, assuming your network storage is also up to task. Very happy with this, as I couldn't get anything to play back smoothly without awful judder and sync issues to save my life through my Geforce RTX card on Win11. I'm not using the included remote, because CoreELEC will respond back to your TV's remote inputs through the HDMI back-channel once you get it all setup. It's a great way to run Kodi.

Best on the market.
This is probably the best streaming device on the market but there are issues that are more than likely due to poor quality control at manufacturing. I have bought 3 of these for streaming and the first one wouldn't work right out of the box. It locked up and would keep rebooting. After replacing it I have had a great experience.

Auto Switch To Best Resolution - Disattivato.

The media player would randomly stop playing remux mkv blurays from plex. Not pause, just stop. After that the only option was to restart the media player. Maybe the Minix will work for you but for me it started after 3 weeks and only got worse. After that I returned it. And I know my plex wasn't the problem because the nvidia shield, phone and pc would play the files just fine.

I got MINIX U8K-Ultra and immediately started to love it. It is fast, it has many options for customizations. I was mostly interested in passthrough capabilities for DTS, Dolby Digital and it passed the tests. It has some bloatware installed that can be disabled but not uninstalled. The launcher is decent but not exceptional, I am though impressed by the device speed in Kodi and Jellyfin. I am waiting for Android 14 that seems to be not yet out. Gigabit LAN is very useful as all the ports. I am very pleased by the device.
