A Must Read
This book describes the situation in which we find ourselves in 2024. There are scary details in some chapters but the chapters at the end show recommendations for saving ourselves that left me feeling grateful for life. Bandy Lee is a wonderful author. READ THROUGH TO THE END!

A Highly Objective and Professional Assessment
Dr. Bandy X. Lee and her colleagues in mental health should be highly commended for having the courage needed to stay true to their ethical code as they've clearly done through offering this book. We live in America today under a dark cloud of social mistrust and defensiveness that by themselves may distort how we see the world and those who differ from us. Dr. Lee shows us through this insightful work a further consequence of our social polarization and the very real danger it represents to society, our democracy, and the future.

Critically important content but needs proofreading
I gave this book 4 stars for its excellent content and critically important message. However, this book desperately needs a professional editor. There are so many punctuation and grammatical errors (eg subject-verb disagreement) and flat-out wrong word usages (eg that instead of than, myself instead of me, quintessential instead of essential, etc) that I found myself correcting the text as I read it. I am on Ch. 6 (page 77) and there hasn't been a single page that didn't have at least two errors. Very distracting. Worse -- it undercuts the critically important and dire message. (Was it rushed to the printer?) Still a very worthy read, but I expected much more attention to detail from this author.

This is an important book
Dr. Lee explains how Trump captivates so many followers with his use of fear, cult leader behavior, muddled logic, lies and other techniques. The last chapter, which covers cures, is inspirational.
