Nice book but not for technical advice.
Its a nicely put together book with some nice figures to carve but it is very simplistic. I was after a beginners book which would give me some easy examples to get started whilst providing some knowledge of materials and tools but the book was very thin in this area. It did give a colourful story about the characters but I think it would have been more useful if the author wrote a section on wood, techniques or tools instead. I have made on character out of balsa wood which was highly enjoyable and turned out very well. I must admit I used a more intuitive approach to the carving as I found the instructions difficult to follow but I don't think everyone would have this response. The section on painting was very useful and provided excellent results.

Good for early starters in whittling!
If like me, you are a learner at whittling, this book is a good start. Easy to follow and plenty of photos and plans to get you on you on your way.

An appropriate authors name for this book
I very recently received this book to complement my collection of woodcarving books. It restricts itself to a few characters, which I think is a good idea, as you don't get bogged down trying to copy too many patters, too many patterns have a bad habit of getting lost, or eaten by a family pet. Lovely book,
