Good, inexpensive bit of kit.
Works really well. I just got an amp with digital inputs but my PC tower doesn't have digital outs. This plugs into a USB on the tower and into the amp toslink input. Better sound from my computer than headphone jack to RCA.

Simply works!
I took a bit of a punt on this as I upgraded my computer but lots of new motherboard do not come with spdif out so I wanted a simply solution that would fit into my current sound set-up. The most important information imo is missing from the description which is sample rate and bit-depth so I have included a screen shot. As you can see it's only 16-bit and that's why I have knocked a star off as in this day and age I expected 24-bit. It does however work absolutely fine, it was auto detected by windows 10 and there's no software to install.

Good.
I’ve tried two other audio adapters recently but the audio kept cutting out rendering them useless. I bought this and it works perfectly (so far). seems to be well made, certainly more robust than the others.

Not DVD quality
Mine was bought for connecting my PC to a soundbar. The one I was sent didn't work at 48KHz (DVD quality) - there was distortion and a loud ringing sound fading in and out. However, I discovered that if I changed Windows sound settings so the output was 44.1KHz (CD quality) then it works ok. For my purposes that is adequate, but the product description claims a 48KHz output and in my case it falls short of that.

Works perfectly with iMac.
Works perfectly - using to connect 2015 iMac to Ruark MR1 speakers using USB->optical connection. Remember to change your sound output settings on iMac to use USB DAC as the sound output source.

Great sounding connection.
When switching from my Bluetooth receiver, to using this cable the sound from my amplifier was a real step up. The volume is higher, clarity and detail are much greater, and there is a smoother less granular quality. How much this is down to the quality of the cable or just the difference you can expect using a wired connection I can’t say. However it does appear to be a good flexible and well shielded cable, with good connectors.

Does exactly what it says
So I've been using my laptop connected to a Panasonic Soundslayer soundbar via Bluetooth for a while which sounds great, except for when I get sound drops and glitches which begun to get annoying as the Bluetooth connectivity would just flake out. I noticed the soundbar had an optical in port, so I looked for a USB to Optical Out cable. I got this off the back of some good comments and can confirm this does exactly what it sets out to do. No drivers are required, just plug in, and your speaker option will appear as "Speakers DAC" in your settings. Sound is great again with no sound drops at all so far!
