Shakespeare Contender Spinning Fishing Reel

I have purchased a total of 7 of the 240 size reels over the last three years. I use them all, as I bass-fish almost every day from January-October. I have never had a single issue with any of my reels, and have caught thousands of fish on them, with many bass over 6#. The largest two were 8.7# and 9.7#. They work well with either mono or braided line. Many more expensive reels have proven to be disappointing over the years, I will not hesitate to recommend these reels for fresh water. I have never used them in salt, however.

This is a seriously nice reel, especially for the price. I had one go bad so I needed a replacement and ordered this not knowing what to expect. It is smooth, takes line on the spool well and casts well. Drag seems smooth too although I haven't fought a big fish with it yet.

The brand is not what it used to be - defective, the line gets stuck in between line roller and wire, wrote email to Shakspeare, they want me to send it, but I have to pay postage, just going to buy new one - different brand.

Great little reel for the price! A little noisy during the reel-in.

This is a decent reel that you can get at box stores for $20. Don’t pay 30-50 for this entry level reel.

My favorite old Shakespeare lightweight reel finally gave out so I replaced it with a Contender. I feel the quality is still there. I've been using it for four years now and it still works great.

Very smooth and very versatile. Needed a Quality Reel for my Wife's Fishing Pole.

OK, just don't let any salt water stay on it for for than an hour or two. Made in China.

Shoulda got a size bigger but oh well mine needed a good cleaning and new oil because it is a cheaper real but thats what u get for 25$
