Hawthorne Play cologne is more fit for warm afternoon or a hot night out. It projects quite strong at first with hints of Seville orange and oud then after some time it mellows down to the Egyptian Geranium. Truly, the oud doesn't come around as long as first but if you happen to have pure oud parfum or oud oil it will enhance the sillage magnificently. All types of oud will blend with this cologne just well. Excellent parfum, and the price is just right.

There is absolutely nothing to really differentiate it from the other sense. All I know is I do not smell patchouli. It doesn't have a deep dry smell as I assumed it would. Smells like a normal cologne that any particular guy would wear. There is absolutely nothing special about it. I was reading the names on the colognes and the descriptions to see if maybe they sent me the wrong one. I don't think they did. It just smells ordinary. A Ross or TJ Maxx find. I smell absolutely no patchouli. The cologne I received could honestly be any of them based off the descriptions on their page. I would not recommend for true patchouli fans. It's an absolute waste of 50$.

My first spritz seemed at first a bit overwhelming, but once it blended with my skin for a few minutes it softened and half an hour later it was perfect. It makes my t shirts smell gorgeous. I really like this stuff. The complexity of the scent develops over time. My advice is let it settle before exposing others. It will last quite a while. Serious pickleball for two hours just improved the scent.

So I brought the Hawthorne play cologne because I smelled it on a buddy of mine and was going to get it for a birthday gift. I went on Amazon and it showed 2 variations and I ordered the one I thought was the one he was wearing by the notes to the best of my ability and recollection (bit of a blind buy). I received it and realized that the cologne I got was NOT the one that I smelt on him. Unfortunately Hawthorne only decribes the cologne but the “WORK” & “PLAY” lines have about 6 variations of each and they do not have any markings that show which one is which!!! WORD OF ADVICE!!: make sure the Hawthorne cologne you are getting is the same one that you are looking for!! (All bottles look identical but you can search up notes and names of them online and try to cross-reference with the one you seen/smelt) the one I purchased which was “woody and aromatic” is a Versace Eros clone, about 80% DNA atleast. The quality is there however; it was just not the correct one I was looking for! Good luck.

My main issue with a lot of colognes is how strong they are in their “masculine” notes that just become unbearable if used in a small room or too heavily- this cologne is floral, woody, with a hint of spice that never overwhelms the senses! Lasts all day and the bottle will last months! Very good if you want something a little lighter and sweeter than Dior Savauge for half the price!

Smells great and lasts a long time. I've gotten so my compliments about how fresh it smells with a nice little kick a spice at the end.
