Helps daughters understand their rocky relationships with their mothers
I really liked this book. It's definitely on the older side, a classical, though the information is still highly relevant. I bought this book as a suggestion from my memoir coach as I am writing a memoir about my strained relationship with my own mother. This book opened my eyes to some of the deeper issues at stake in Mother-Daughter relationships.I don't like how long the chapters were (if you even want to call them that because they are humongous!). It caused for a slow read and took me a while to get through. However, the information inside this book is valuable and worthwhile to read, especially if you and your own mother don't get along or if you believe they may have a personality disorder.

There may not be a solution to this problem.......
Pretty good read, for an old, throwback book. What the author writes is still, for all intents and purposes, still applies today. The Dynamic between Mothers and Daughters is fraught with pitfalls. Unresolved, intergenerational issues (my mother always did it that way, so I do too) kind of mindset is what the author was trying to get at in her tome. Until that is addressed, and it would be difficult, if not impossible, things will go on as they are. Takes more Introspection than most would be capable of. Especially, these days, with the shortened attention spans, thanks to technology like the cell phone, and other things.

Best of all
I had read her first edition many years ago and recall that it was insightful. With the recent passing of my mother I was hoping for help in understanding my intense, lingering and diverse feelings outside of the anticipated grief. Some of her paragraphs in this edition could have been transcribed from my own verbalization. Best of all, I am feeling a heightened sense of peace with my increased understanding and awareness that my feelings are anything but unique among daughters!

My Mother/MySelf
My doctor had suggested that I read this book. I couldn't find it in our Library, so decided to look in amazon.Yes, I have just started reading and it is quite informative....do have to read on.....My only question is ! Why was the original cost of the book $2.50 and I had to purchase for $4.53? Condition was used and sold by a recycling company????? The other 3 books that I purchased by this author: Nancy Friday are ok.Please advise.I will write a new review when I complete reading the book.Thank you.Patricia Ann Horvath

It’s a good read
I first read this many years ago hoping to get some insight. I was curious as I grew up without sisters. It’s an eye opener, and probably not always easy to read, especially for some women. The author is a lay person and it’s groundbreaking, especially for the time. Ordered for a friend. Author has written more follow up books. Recommended.

I've recommended to many other women
Started me on a journey of looking into my life and my relationships. A much-needed review based upon things I didn't even realize I was picking up from my mother. Helped expose the lack in our relationship when I was a child. Have recommended to many other women.

A Book of Its Time and Place
The strength of this book is the way it captures the "sexual revolution" in the US in the early 1980's. Many of the author's theories have not met the test of time. It's a good reminder that even though our "mothers" may seem old-fashioned to us; we will surely appear that way to the next generation.

Not relevant in today’s world
Wanted to read this as this was recommended to me to help me understand my teenage daughter however this was written in an old fashioned way. I did not like the style or even advice given. Stopped reading it half way through as I was getting annoyed with the author I think this may have been OK to read in the 60s or 70s but it does not apply in the 21st century. Too out of date.

Still brilliant 40 odd years later
Clearly written account of psychodynamics and the effect of childhood on adulthood, written in the 70s from a feminist perspective. i still give this book to people to explain childhood effects....

A lot of mumbo jumbo
I thought I'd give this book a go but its a lot of speculation and doesn't say anything concrete, helpful or relevent to anyone else (I only read a small amount before I was annoyed and gave up). I admittedly did not read a lot of it as I was bored and found it wishy washy so cannot comment past the first 30 pages or so.
