The Everyday Enchantment Tarot: Finding Magic in the Midst of Life (Deck and Guidebook Box Set)
M**L
You will not need to even look at another deck again. This is the bees knees :)
Okay so there is this thing on the market from Poppy Palin and Schiffer called the Everyday Enchantment tarot. It is not the usual tarot you come across. This is a deck that screams out to be used and read with - every day for any situation. The imagery is rich in detail but simple in expression. If you are not psychic (and I have the psychic ability of a house brick) this is definitely the deck for you.I own approximately 75 decks (yeah a bit of a collector and hoarder but at least it is a healthy indulgence - no arteries clogged up with cholesterol from this obsession) and this is the last deck I will ever buy. I mean it. Nothing will come close, so why bother. It has filled the void I have felt for the past 22 years. You know the one I mean - you think you have found 'THE' deck, then realise after a while the art work is stunning - but it is lacking in storytelling. It does not have layer upon layer, each different but interlocking with the one above and below it. And after trying vainly to bond with it and wring it out like an over absorbed sponge - you put it back in the box and shelve it along with the other 70 decks that came before it. And so the search continues. But hey, you have an awesome tarot collection. This is not going to happen with this baby. Oh no. This deck is never going to be given time to pause for breath. I want to dive in and keep diving in. Because I know it has more depth than I have ability to reach. It is going to be a friend, mentor, wise counsel backside kicker and much, much more. The characters are REAL. They talk to you. They draw you in. You feel you know them. You feel at times, you have been there in their shoes and may have the book and T-shirt as evidence. You empathise with them, understand them and even feel a little unsettled at times by them. Or you know someone like them. It is this personable nature of the deck that really does make for an awesome work horse of a reading deck.Have a look at the images I have posted by way of example. 3 from each suit and an example of each of the courts. Because you can then see for yourself how much there is in each image. If you start a journal for study, you need to allocate plenty of space for each card. Because I have a feeling you will assume you have it sussed - then WHAM - 6 months down the line you see something you missed. Or a new take. It is going to be an amazing journey. One that keeps giving.SOME QUESTIONS I MADE UP BUT HAVE THOUGHT OF MANY TIMES.Q: Is it just another tarot deck? Erm.... no.Q: Why is this different or special? It is a modern day deck, depicting modern day imagery for modern day issues. The person you are reading for will feel part of the reading, because they will understand and be able to resonate with the imagery. I think this is important. They should be an equal part of the reading, not someone looking on with the look on their face which says "What the... are you looking at and talking about?!" This has been missing from the world of tarot for way too long. I only have a couple of other decks that are modern day in imagery, and one of them has been long out of print. (If you come across it, check out the Bright Idea deck - the creator did not market it as a tarot deck. It was marketed as a brainstorming deck, so sneaked under the radar).Q: How easy is it to read with?Probably easier than any other deck than I own. Oodles of imagery, emotion, personality and story telling. Each card can be read in so many different ways, yet still maintains true to the overriding energy of the original Rider Waite Smith. Poppy has stayed true to the RWS roots but has dragged it kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I am sure if Pixie had access to what we have in this day and age, she would have also created a kick butt deck. With that in mind, I suspect she would more than approve of what Poppy has done. She would be running across road and giving her a huge high 5 with a "GO GIRL!"I did a first reading, and it was a question on how we will work together, strengths etc. Hierophant came up in the position of "what are your strengths as a deck" Now usually you would go down the route of being a spiritual teacher. And yes, that is the case. But Poppy gives you more angles to consider. How about the fact the students are behind desks in rigid rows, but the "teacher" is sitting on a stool, no desk in sight. So you have a eureka moment. The students have been already been taught to be orthodox and follow form and structure. Isn't it nice to see the teacher is showing that is not necessary. Desks create barriers. Aren't there already enough barriers to understanding and learning? Could that be why we have so many religious wars? This deck wants you to get rid of that idea and upbringing. Create your own magic and path of learning. And embrace all other ideals and systems to forge a unique and personal path based on awareness instead of prejudice. I know this deck is going to take me out of the orthodox and structured way of reading the tarot. It will become more holistic. How cool is that! :)Q: Are the Minor Arcana cards as good as detailed as the Major Arcana cards?Heck yeah. Poppy does not show one as being more important than the other. You will get as much from each section as the other.Q: What about the aces and courts. Quite often they are pretty bland in tarot decks.Wash your mouth out with soap....lol. Poppy does not do bland. The aces are incredible -best I have seen from any deck. Take a look at the Ace of Swords I have posted as an example. As for the courts, they are true personalities. You feel the energy and perhaps reckless abandon in the Knight of Wands. You know the queen of Swords is incisive and has attention to detail. Puts emotions to one side and lets her mind and training steer her. Again, the courts are the best I have encountered in any deck. You are not left relying on learned key phrases you have stored in your brain cells for when these pesky courts come up. These will sing and dance for you and leave you not wanting for inspiration or guidance.Q: Is it hand coloured or computer coloured?Poppy has put heart and soul into creating this deck herself using pencil or paint. This really does shine through and the attention to detail is immense. This took her a few years to complete, and she has never waivered. You cannot tell which card she started with (when firing on all cylinders and overflowing with initial energy) and the 75th card. (Where I know if it were me, I would be a drooling wreck in a corner looking at my pencil and howling).Q: Yeah, but what about the book. I bet she skimps on the Minor Arcana and only gives them a few sentences compared to a whole section for the Major Arcana.Oh ye of little faith. Each card has the same amount of attention in the book. I love how she has divided each card into three sections: 1) Explanation of some of the symbolism included in the image. This is where you may get the odd eureka moment of "gee that is so obvious and clever!" 2) The character talks to you. Yes I mean what I say - they are talking to you. They are looking right at you and are explaining their situation or outlook. How refreshing is that! Boy, does it give you even more insight into the card. 3) General interpretation. She also leaves a few questions hanging for you to consider. There may be no right or wrong answer, and the interpretation may depend on the question and place in a spread. But it encourages you to think about the issue and not follow one prescriptive track.Q: So how do the cards shuffle?Quite well. No saturated and plastic feeling lamination. You know the sort - where cards stick to each other and you have to keep prizing them apart. Sun or bright light causes your eyes to burn through to the retina due to the excessive shine off the lamination. These have a nice matt finish to them. And they shuffle well. The downside is the fact they may be a little large for some, but I shuffled them just fine, and my hands are normal size - not baseball glove sized. And if you are very brave you can always trim the borders off. Is that a sharp intake of breath I hear?Relax. The cards will be fine. If anything it will encourage you to really bond and get to know the deck where you don't need the titles. I assure you they will not throw toys or spit dummies. They will just as happy to work for you without borders if that floats your boat.Relax. The cards will be fine. If anything it will encourage you to really bond and get to know the deck where you don't need the titles. I assure you they will not throw toys or spit dummies. They will just as happy to work for you without borders if that floats your boat.I have done just that with this deck. When you put them next to each other it is now possible to make one big movie scene with the story very much interwoven. So, if you are interested here is the recipe. Not for the faint hearted. I want to throw in that disclaimer so you do not try and sue me.** Plenty of time with no distractions.** Good natural light.** Sharp pair of scissors.** Corner rounder.** 100% certainty you want to do this, and oodles of confidence to make that first snip.Q: Who might not like the deck?Tarot snobs who believe it has to be crammed with mystical and esoteric imagery or symbolism to be classed as a true tarot deck. Those who cannot abide the renaming of suits. (You have this here - swords are blades). Those who do not like large decks. Those who are entrenched in tradition and believe only the old ways are best. Those who like to rely on key phrases they have learned parrot fashion as opposed to using the imagery to inspire them and take them in different directions. So, now the rambling has finished, what are you waiting for? GO BUY THE DECK!Disclaimer: I have no association with Poppy or Schiffer publishing. I have never met Poppy, but if I did? She would get the biggest hug she has ever had. With a whisper in her ear of a very personal and supporting kind. She knows why. I have been reading cards for 22 years. I feel I am in the World mode. Ready to close a chapter and start afresh. This deck is going to be my Fool. I am sooo looking forward to having a rekindled interest in tarot. I will not be going through the motions with this deck. I just know it is going to take me on a new journey and believe me - I am up for it. I need it. This deck is needed right now. Both by me personally, and also by the tarot reading world. Thanks Poppy and thank you Schiffer for having the faith in her to take this on. It is the most important tarot deck to be marketed, since 1910.

10/10
I love love love this tarot deck, it’s a really big deck so a little hard to shuffle. New cards definitely have to break them in. The overall deck itself the art is amazing and has so much detail and depth to them. A lot of messages are in this deck.

These Cards are Magical
I just can't get enough of these cards. They are not just beautiful but they are full of magical energy. I feel as if the creator is sitting right next to me pouring her energy into a reading. The cards are self explanatory and full of life. So many readers on YouTube incorporate them in their readings, that's how I discovered them myself. I am so excited to have them become part of my card collection.

Beautiful inclusive deck
I rarely write review but after seeing Poppy`s heartrbreaking video I thought it was important to share my experience with this deck. Given that I just received it I cannot tell how it reads as I will need to bond with it first, but in terms of quality it is in a nice sturdy box, on a solid card stock. Cards are huge, and yes they do have borders. However, once you see the art work itself, you will know why this deck quickly became some people`s favorite deck. Poppy poured all her heart and soul in her work, and you can truly feel all the love she put in it for the cards to reflect our everyday lives and it will do well for some heavier readings where you need a straightforward answer. I do not have any other contemporary decks so this will be interesting. Some cards like the ten of swords are really making me feel uneasy, but hey! Sometimes the cards tell you what you dont want to hear. Others, like the Death have a really loving and warm energy, to help ease the message. You can really feel that. I absolutely love this one. I read some people saying they are put off by the fairies. At first it was something that bugged me a bit as some of them are a bit scary (like on the seven of swords) but they are mostly benevolent creatures (see on the Ace of Swords). I see them more like a reflection of our psyche on that particular card message. I was litterally drawned by that deck after seeing a video about it and really debated whether I should buy it or not as I already have so many decks. But knowing that there is such a deep and loving message underneath and how important it is to Poppy, whom I do not know, but I do support artists and I know how hard it is for them. If you dig a little bit into her story as well, it is actually quite amazing that she can still paint when she is in so much pain physically. I really felt that this deck would really talk to me at a time where there are still so many uncertainties and our search for Oneness is more important than ever. I hope that this review will help others who were not sure. Will update after I have done a couple of readings.
