I didn't expect super great results considering I have multi-color low pile burber carpet. Seeing stains is somewhat difficult (the reason I bought it!). I am able to see some areas if I know where to look but just scanning I can't see discoloration. And I know for a fact there are markings I'm not aware of. I tried testing it in the bathroom, thinking for sure I'd find something gross in there, but nothing. It made every piece of fuzz or plastic glow but not anything protein based that should show up with this light.

I worried over this purchase too much--there are a lot of choices here, and several people weighed in saying that to use this for finding pet stains you should get a 365-385nm light, etc., etc. I finally decided to just give this one a shot, as it had mostly good reviews. I'm glad I did. It does a fine job of making cat urine stains fluoresce, and has been very helpful. It's a good choice, especially for the price.For those who need directions on how to insert the batteries, it's pretty simple. The negative pole of each included AAA battery goes on the spring-loaded side of the battery carrier. Once all three batteries are in, look closely at the carrier: it has a "+" and a "-" end. The "+" side gets inserted into the flashlight body, so that the negative side makes contact with the end cap that you'll screw on. If you look carefully at the end cap, you'll see that it has a "-" on it.

I got this with some cat urine stain removing stuff. I got two different kinds and this light to help locate where I might need to clean. I noticed that there was a lingering smell even though the litter was all cleaned out. So I was afraid my cat had peed somewhere I did not know about. So I got this and it worked so awesome it was disturbing! There was only two places (both right outside the litter box area not far) that I will be needing to clean which makes me very relieved and so I started to do just that and will be using the light to double check it is not recurring.update: Recently our oldest cat has had a seizure and got real sick, real bad off. We have been nursing him back to health with help from the vet and he is still not so great. He can not walk well without falling over and we have noticed a lot of accidents between where he is spending most of his time and the litter box where tries to get too but can not so well. This black light has been a life saver, if we did not already have it we would never have known he was struggling THAT bad, so we moved one of the boxes closer to where he sleeps most of the time so that he would not have to go so far right now. The light makes it so easy to find and clean up the messes soon as we can keeping it from smelling the house up.My house smells so much better thanks to this little light's work. I am very happy with it.

Well, it illuminated where someone missed the toilet, but it didn't light up a single drop in or near the litter box! Overall, didn't work for cat pee.

First of all, the light does not look like the picture. It is a small flashlight and does have black light capability. It did work, but it is not as bright as I thought it would be.

Works great!! Bought this last May and still using it to check for pet accidents. Thought we had lost it but found it being hidden by the cat! The LEDs looked brighter than I thought they would be, but they REALLY put out good UV light. Saw stuff I thought was cleaned that wasn't. Not just pet problems, but kitchen back splash that wasn't really all that clean, and other places. Just a LED Black Light. Really is light on the batteries. We have not changed them since we bought it. (Duracells) Does exactly when it is supposed to do!

Extremely disappointing! The diameter of the beam is so small it's hardly worth the battery. I do not recommend this one at all.
