Mink Oil for Leather Boots, Leather Cleaner and Conditioner 3.53oz, All-Natural and Waterproof

I bought this in the hopes of restoring or saving my deceased husband's favorite leather hat. Mink oil was recommended by the research I did. The hat had been in storage for a long time. Unknown to me a relative had gone through and repacked some of his belongings. The leather hat had been crushed and the leather was dry, hard, and almost brittle. The crown had been crushed and the leather was scratched and had the beginnings of cracks in places. I had pushed the hat back into shape as best as I could. I started by cleaning the hat with a damp washcloth using warm soapy water. I wrung as much water out as I could using the damp cloth to clean off the dirt, dust, and grime that coated it. I let the hat dry overnight before using paper towels to rub the mink oil into the leather. I decided to use paper towels as it was a lot of surface area and my research said it might take more than one coat as the oils in the leather had been dried out and the cleaning would take out even more. I let the hat sit after applying the mink oil and checked it again after 12 hours. The leather was looking dry again. So I coated the hat a second time. This time the difference was visible. As you can see from the pictures the hat looks almost dark brown in the before pictures, it was black! The black color was restored after the second application. The brush was great at getting into the woven band and along seams. I have included before and after pictures. This was a full grain oiled leather hat not suede. So smooth leather like you would see used on cowboy boots. Heavy leather not the velvet texture of suede. The leather was more supple and shined after the second coat. Some of the scratches and cracking reduced. I was very pleased with the results.

This is a very nice set for waterproofing your leather bags, shoes, and coats. It comes with a nice horsehair brush for applying the oil, a microfiber cloth for polishing the leather after it dries. If your leather is vegetable tanned natural color leather, it may darken a little but it will acquire a lovely sheen and will become water resistant. If used often, it will become waterproof which means that you can use it in rainy days and the leather won't suffer for it.

Reasonable price, nice brush and cloth wipe. Instructions were only printed on the box (not the product tin). The product made my Sperry Top Siders look significantly better!

Great boot-shine kit. I got this for my son for Christmas so that he can start shining his own cowboy boots. It's a great kit. But note that it does not come with a bag or box to keep it in. Buy a little canvas bag to keep it in. The mink oil is quality and the brush is good, too. Overall, very worthwhile purchase. Just get a bag for it.

I used this mink oil on a leather tote bag I made, and it worked really well. It was easy to apply and left the leather soft, smooth, and looking well-conditioned. I haven’t tested how waterproof it is yet, so I can’t comment on that, but for conditioning and protecting the leather, it did a great job. Would definitely buy again.

Simple and easy to use for my work boots as they get grungy at times. I do like the wax but the brush seem to be a bit on the small side. Not a deal breaker but good product.

Mink oil is fantastic for restoring leather and protecting it....great deal for about $8.50 you get a good sized can plus a horse hair brush for application and a soft cloth finish the job. i have already done 3 of my wife's leather shoes and a large should bag which was scuffed up after 2 years of use. I leave the mink on for a day so it can keep penetrating and dry's out a little before giving it a hard brush off with another bigger sized horse hair brush...the results are amazing leaving almost every item i used it on look brand new.
