Second time I have bought one of these - first one got stolen (just joking!). We actually bought a 2nd one for one of the kids as they travel a bit and it is big enough to stow a laptop (and iPad) and secure it under the seat when away from the car. In motels it can be sometimes difficult to find a fitting to secure it to, but there is usually something. The design in beautiful in its simplicity and the exo-shell prevents slash and grab. It is not going to stop a concerted thief, but will deter most. Only improvement I'd suggest is a more robust/ 4 dial combo lock. Great product.

This is a very well-made, quality item but I think it does not work for every one and every situation. Bought for a 3-week trip that including urban, rural and beach settings, in a country reported to be unsafe. We didn't spend enough time on the beach to make this worthwhile and our car was usually close by. Or there weren't too many people on the beach, so we didn't feel our limited valuables would be unsafe. Also, it is a bit bulky and takes up a lot of room in your suitcase - even a piece of checked luggage. It would take up waaay too much room if you only have a carry-on. But I suppose you could chain it to the handle of your carry-on. The size is great for families. The next time we go on a trip where we spend a lot of time on the beach, I might consider taking the smaller one just for essential valuables. Although I've heard reports of places where beach sandals are stolen, it is not practical to lock up your sandals because you usually have to walk across the hot sand to get to some place where your valuables are secured to a table leg or small tree. The chain is probably big enough to both close the bag securely and lock it to something about 3-4" in diameter, but probably not too much bigger.

I purchased both the 5L and 12L pacsate. I had first ordered the 12K safe and when it arrived ordered the 5L Pacsafe. As I left on vacation soon after receiving the Pacsafes I didnt get a chance to return the 12L; so now I have both. The 12L is big (the size of a pillowcase) and would be good for keeping multiple laptops and other devices safe. I am sure I will use it in the future. I used the 5L for my trip to Machu Pichu and the Galapagos Islands. I used it to store my iPad mini, camera, SD card, money, passport, jewelry etc. When I was in a hotel room I attached it to the clothes hanging rail in the closet. When I was on the schooner in the Galapagos I attached it to a cut out in the drawer handle. When I left my hand luggage at hotel in Aguas Calientas when touring Machu Pichu I attached it to a metal ring in my hand luggage. It has a unique locking system and if locked/used correctly will keep your valuables safe. Going forward I will not longer use the safe in hotel rooms as they can be easily opened with a master key. To be clear the Pacsafe is not waterproof. I didn't place the bag in water so I cant say if the body of the bag is waterproof but There is an opening at the top which will let water in.
