Something different
I drink a LOT of coffee, and I'm always up to try something new. I had no idea that the Philippines produced coffee, so I absolutely had to give this a try. I have never seen coffee like this. Cracking open the package, the aroma is slightly acrid and somewhat fruity, and the beans are tiny as compared to my everyday dark roast and every other coffee I've tried. One little annoyance for me was that the zipper was bypassed when I opened the package, so I'll have to secure the package with a binder clip or transfer the contents into a ziplock for freshness. This is definitely a medium roast and produces a lighter cup than I normally drink. I find it tasty, with a little fruitiness like the aroma suggests, and I happily drank all 6 cups that I brewed. This will not likely become my favorite cup (I'm really devoted to the dark roasts), but I'd certainly place this into the “worth trying” category, because it is very tasty and I could see it being someone's favorite.

Fantastic Cup of Coffee!
I always enjoy trying new coffee varieties, flavors and roasting techniques. I had no experience with Excelsa coffee so I was excited to try it. The beans are smaller than what I'm typically used to with Arabica or Robusta coffees. It reminds me of a peaberry coffee bean in shape/size. The beans are nicely roasted (consistent), very little chaff and a great aroma. I went through the same process I do with my other coffee beans using a drip coffee maker: 32oz water, 54g beans in a burr grinder. The results were great. The low acid/bitterness is the first thing I noticed, followed by a well balanced, slightly fruity character. It was impressively smooth tasting and my wife really enjoyed it as well. I would definitely recommend this coffee for anyone looking to try something slightly different. Especially someone that finds typical coffee a bit too bitter. I'm looking forward to trying this coffee from the other regions as well after doing a bit more research.

Very poor quality means very poor taste
I wanted to like this coffee, I've never had an Excelsa it was exciting to discover a new possibility in the world of coffee. Having said that, the quality of the coffee is quite poor at $2 an oz. The coffee had a musky quality, was very irregular in appearance and had a poor cupping taste that led me to dump the bag onto a plate to look for mold. I found no mold, but numerous coffee beans that had been damaged by... mold (prior to roasting) over ripened/ poorly processed beans (blacks) Bleached from improper storage or drying Dried Pod Cherry (hull still on bean) Insects I also found a stick. Just look at the picture - this isn't what one expects when a person pays this much for coffee

A very lovely coffee that reflects the smiling faces of the Philippines.Try it!
Lighter and slightly fruity.Wonderful coffee for us who need to go easy on caffeine.Very unique and a fresh light taste.Clean and bright. It has half the caffeine as arabica.I love it for late afternoon when I need a pickup without disturbing my sleep at night.Perfect for tea or after dinner with dessert.Easy on "no breakfast just coffee" drinkers.

A Coffee Lover's Hidden Gem
I'll admit, I enjoy a good cup of coffee, and I've tried my fair share of beans. But Excelsa coffee was a pleasant surprise, offering a unique experience that I haven't found elsewhere. This isn't your everyday coffee. It's got a complex flavor profile, with bright acidity and hints of fruit (almost like berries) that I didn't expect. It's not overwhelming, though – it's more like a well-balanced wine, where each sip reveals something new. I usually drink my coffee black, and this one is perfect that way. It's smooth and doesn't have any bitterness. Honestly, it's the kind of coffee you savor, not just gulp down for a caffeine fix. If you're looking to expand your coffee horizons and try something truly special, I highly recommend Excelsa. It might just become your new favorite.

Poor Roast
Sadly, this coffee is poorly roasted. Very inconsistent, and far too darkly roasted. Tastes burnt.
