A must-read for Norfolk landscape and agricultural History students
A really interesting book setting this giant of agriculture against the background of the Holkham Estate, other contemporary landowners and the history of agriculture in Norfolk. Susanna is already a well-respected author and researcher of Norfolk History and this book is another example of her detailed research and accessible writing style. Thoroughly recommended.

Well written
Very informative book, am interested in the village of Longford in Derbyshire, so am pleased with what has been included. Extremely readable.

The "Practical Farmer"
Starting from an interest in the 17th century this book illustrates a side of the rapid progress Britain made at that time. Coke was part of the Whig aristocracy that ruled the country and the book shows how they took an interest in their land and started the transformation of medieval cultivation into the rich farmlands of today. It is a well made book and worthy to be kept on the shelves for reference even though it is a paperback.

Coke of Norfolk
A most accurate research by the author, in a chronological development of facts and statistics. The first Earl of Leicester of the 1832 creation is portrayed with masterly knowledge.

A grand man
Fascinating tome on a man who made the most of the hand given to him at birth! Made all the more interesting because of the alleged shenanigans between near neighbours Will and Kate over at nearby Amner Hall and the current incumbents at the grandest Estate in Norfolk -Holkham Hall
