Good idea, bad design
First off, the sandwich I made was really yummy. I wasn't displeased at all with that part of this machine. The thing I didn't like was it made an almighty mess and was difficult to clean and impossible to clean completely. I made a grilled cheese, turkey breast and tomato sandwich. Cheese melted off the bread in all directions, ran down inside the machine, out the back, and off the sides. I let it cool and then pulled the melted cheese out of the nooks and crannies it had melted into. I had to use a butter knife to separate it at the front grill plates where it ran down inside the machine. I thought I'd gotten everything till I turned it over and found greasy cheese liquid had run down inside the machine and was leaking out the bottom. I wiped off what I could but I know there is cheese residue inside the machine that I will never be able to get out. It dripped cheese grease all over my shirt as well as my counter-top. Luckily, I was smart enough to place the entire thing on a cookie sheet before I started so most of the residue ran off onto that. Makes a good sandwich, but I could have simply used a skillet and cleaned it up in less than half the time.

Neat little sandwich maker!
Inexpensive, small, good design, and easy to clean! Fun little hot sandwich maker. It was shipped quickly and packed beautifully. It stores standing-up and takes up very little shelf space. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Yummi Sandwiches
This device makes delicious hot sandwiches (depending on what you put in it). It is inexpensive and does a terrific job. However, the cleaning could be made a little bit easier by closing the gaps between the plastic shell and the heating panels. Just be careful to not overfill it and make the cheese run all over. But for the rest, a great 4 star item, thanks!

Waste of time and money
At first I posted:This is an inexpensive little item, but it does exactly what I need it to. Sandwiches aside, we made brownies in it yesterday. Tasty, and one more reason not to turn on the oven. Yay.Edited to add: Welll... I'm back. Round two on using this and it gets...a one star.I put in two sandwiches (very thin bread, buttered on the outside, with thin slices on banana on the inside...) Mushy, right? Not hard or stiff or anything. And I began to close the lid...Before I even got to latch the lid closed, the lid cracked - significantly - in two places. I will be uploading pics and chit-chatting with Amazon about a refund. And hey, in the mean time -- don't waste your money. Spend a little more and get something that will work at least twice.

so was happy to find it on Amazon
I had this same item and brand in the past that lasted for years. I couldn't find it in stores, so was happy to find it on Amazon. The latch that keeps it closed broke within three uses. That being said, I was using a hearty 9 grain bread that may have been too thick for it. In the old days I used cheap white bread and cheese singles or peanut butter and jelly and it worked like a charm.

Doesn't measure up
I bought this as a replacement for the Cuisinart sandwich maker, which seems to have limited life because the thermostat goes bad. From the illustrations and description, it looked like the same thing under a different brand name. Because of a slightly lower price and (mainly) free shipping, I chose this unit as a replacement. However, resemblance in looks is as far as it goes. This unit is flimsy, does not seal well, and does not do a good job of toasting. The results are tolerable but not good. It appears that it does not reach a high enough toasting temperature, so that the bread is not browned well on the outside. If you have any "liquidy" ingredients in the sandwich (such as tomato slices), the result is soggy. A few minutes of air drying helps, but the sandwich is still limp. The unit does clean up well, and so far the non-stick coating is not flaking off. If you toast mainly with dry ingredients, this unit may be OK for you, but next time I will pay a little more for the Cuisinart. I have a hunch that I will have to replace it fairly soon anyway.

Broken within two months of purchase & only used 5-6 times
So disappointed with this item and now because it was outside the 30 day purchase date I am advised to contact the manufacturer directly. I used this maybe 5-6 times and while using it last night it just broke mid toasting and will not come back on.

Worked okay the first 4 or 5 times. Need to use very thin small sliced sandwich bread.Went to use it again and my sandwich bread stuck to the plates. I had to scrape the bread off the plates. Needless to say, I had to throw the unit out.You get what you pay for I guess

No problem making sandwiches with this product and it's pretty sturdy too. There are some design problems though: it is hard to clean, indicator lights are too dim and can't be seen unless you turn down the lights, and finally there's no on/off switch.
