This product depends upon: Solar availability, care of water level, and 'patience'. In addition, it really needs more detailed directions, and how to deal with the intermittent spray/no spray. It does not just 'start up' and continue running with direct sunlight. The fine print on the back of directions suggests you leave it out of the water in full sunlight for two hours. This is really a good way to 'charge' the battery. I still need to try this. Who knew you could 'charge' a lithium battery? I am working on the fine tuning this requires, because when it works, it's really great! Yes, it is slightly overcast right now, and it does spray intermittently. Also, the needs for water need to be monitored. With a good capacity it does well. In lesser water volume it needs extra attention . I was inclined to give up on this, but do enjoy it so much when it functions. A work in Progress.

This fountain is a mixed bag. It is true that as long as it is in direct, unshaded sun, it will pump water. The fact that it has a built in battery will allow it to keep pumping water for a (very) short time if it goes into less than direct light. It will not pump on a cloudy day.The instructions are a bit confusing because they refer to the order in which you attach the plastic pieces that come with the fountain. The plastic tube that is supposed to be the first piece to attach to the fountain disk actually is not included in the accessories bag because it is already attached to the fountain.As for how high in the air this will shoot the water, it is irrelevant. The pump is not adjustable, so you basically have two settings. If you do NOT use the perforated spray pieces, your fountain will shoot water in the air about one inch high. If you DO use one of the included perforated pieces, it will shoot the water up about two feet in the air, which will cause even the tiniest breeze to blow the water drops right off of your fountain onto the ground. This will drain your fountain in a matter of minutes, making it dry and useless (and will probably eventually break your pump because it will no longer be submerged in water). So unless your fountain is indoors where there is no hint of breeze, or unless your fountain base is several feet wide so that the spray will not blow over the fountain edge, then all of the pieces included to make the water go up in the air are useless. You have a one inch tall fountain. Now, in my case, having a one inch tall fountain is better than nothing, but not what I expected.Also, keep in mind that the fountain floats. It has four suction cups on the bottom, but of course those won't stick to a concrete fountain. So unless you use rocks to hold the fountain in place, it will move around floating in your fountain. And if you do use rocks, keep in mind that you cannot put rocks on top of the fountain disk because it will block the sun from reaching the photocells and will scratch them up. So you sort of need to arrange rocks around the disk to hold it in place.The birds like their new, intermittent, one inch fountain better than a pool of unmoving water. I'm a little disappointed.

I purchased the product because of the built in battery, which allows it to "work in NOT direct sun". I followed the instructions on the insert for setup and first use. And, at first it does work immediately. But then, even in direct sun it sometimes does NOT work. It shuts off for an hour or so, then comes back on. And it does NOT work for more than 20 minutes or less when it gets cloudy. Basically, it comes on and off way too intermittently in direct sun. I put it away and do not use it. Sad.

This is the third floating solar fountain of this type we've had; typically they don't last past one summer. This one is far superior to the other ones we've had before from other vendors. I don't know if it's the battery, or if it's just made better, but it just keeps going and going; even on cloudy days, it still goes, in spurts intermittently. You just have to clean the intake grate (on the pump) and the spout every couple of days. We are very happy with the performance of this unit.

Not sure why people give this great reviews. I charged if for hours, in direct sun. When it works, it's intermittent - even in direct sun. It only works in deep water, which causes it to float. Depending on the wind it will float to one side and, if working, will quickly drain the bird bath - which is a big no-no. You can't let it run in low water levels. I spent all day messing with the thing, then returned it. Epic fail. I had purchased on without the battery back up. It was horrible so I returned it and bought this one. Just as bad. I would have loved a fountain but will spend my money on a "wiggler" to keep the water moving. At least those work.

The sun has to be directly hitting it for it to work. Then it squirts and stops every second. You need a wide bath to put it in or it will squirt all the water out of the bowl if there’s any wind what so ever. I took mine out... I think the repetitive squirting noise was annoying/scaring the birds away.

Was super cute at first, worked for couple hours. I read 'instruction' sheet and followed trouble shooting, still nothing. Honestly wouldn't recommend. I saw other reviews saying the same thing but I took a chance....don't waste your time :(

1st day worked great so I ordered 2 more. The two worked one day, full sun today and no matter what I try neither will work. Followed the directions etc....

I am surprised. It worked for the first day or two, then it slowly worked less & less. It is in the sun all day.

It squirted a little squirt for a second or two then quit. I left it out for a few hours thinking it just needed some sun, but nope; still wasn’t working.

Extremely disappointed In this product. Stopped working within three weeks of getting it. Have not been able to get it work since and now apparently I missed the return date by...

Item was packaged well (no damage to box) but solar panel had a 3” crack under top layer. I returned the item for a refund.

the filter gets clogged several times a day so every couple of hours i get to clean it out in order for fountain to operatethe fountain itself is ugly in my creme colored...

The pump is just what I needed. I'm totally satisfied with it.

Works only intermittently.

junk.... love to send back...through my box got. work 1 day....done .....plus only stays down until the sun heats the water...I can't believe I got this and paid for it
