It's exactly what you think it is: a well-built, airtight canister for storing stuff you want to be kept dry. There is a rubber washer around the base of the cap that keeps water out. At the bottom of the container is a TINY ferrocerium rod that is super-glued to the base, widthwise. I would imagine you get like ten strikes before you can no longer activate it. It's probably better that you forget it is there. You could probably use double-sided tape or super glue and affix some sandpaper to the smooth circular lid for striking safety matches. I will be using mine to hold broken pieces of fire starter and some cotton balls as tinder. Unfortunately, there is no way to secure this tiny bottle to anything. It would have been nice to get at least a little lanyard hole, maybe molded into the lid. But the price was right, so I cannot complain.

I've used this for camping trips my whole adult life. They're waterproof, odor-proof (if you using as a stash), and they last forever. You still need a flint, sandpaper, or some other dry, rough surface to strike a match on, but it's very affordable, so you can buy two, use one and keep the other as storage for the strip torn off a matchbox.

Finally it's back on Amazon at a reasonable price! These things make perfect cases for individual 18650 batteries. £1.47 is a bargain, sturdy and waterproof. They're about a fiver elsewhere, which I'm not prepared to pay!
