Redring’s misleadingly titled I3V water heater. Misleading because I thought at first it was a 13 volt heater (what use is that?). But no, it’s a 240 volt mains powered water heater, with a 3 kilowatt element, which doesn’t sound much but is adequate for heating a small reservoir.Bought to replace a 20 yo Sadia water heater in my workshop and having good DIY skills this was an easy replacement.The mains water inlet is mounted at the bottom of the unit. The mains power supply entry point is a ready made cut-out in the back of the appliance and easy to access for connecting up the mains power supply and concealing the wire.There is one rotary control which turns the water flow and the heating element on together. A red “on” light comes on when the heating element is heating water. Water temperature is dependant on water flow (and pressure), so the slower the flow the hotter the water. Having said that, my water pressure is low but the heater works fine and delivers very hot water if required depending on where you set the control.From the switched off position, the control cycles through from hot to cool as you turn the control, so you get hot water first, and as you continue to turn the control you get the cooler temperatures.The water reservoir in this water heater is quite small, probably about a quarter litre capacity, as a consequence hot water is produced more quickly when you turn it on, so waiting for warm or hot water to come through takes less than 10 seconds.The delivery tube is 20cms (8 inches) long and swivels through 360 deg’s if necessary. The “vortex” spray head delivers a good, strong spray pattern.A nice compact unit which works well.

This was purchased on behalf of the North West Museum of Road Transport at St Helens as part of an upgrade to our catering facility. It was easy to install and seems to be working perfectly. It was a good price and delivered promptly. It is used only at weekends when we are open to the public but so far it has given every satisfaction and no problems at all.

It is a Redring gizmo so it works.

Arrived following day and I'm not a prime customer but didn't seem to work only drizzled. No water when the dial was at 12 o'clock, 9 or even 6 and started to drizzle at close to 3 o'clock. Replacement process by Amazon was amazing and didn't cost anything picked up from the front door. Next one arrives a week later and again drizzles. So had a think. Not a product fault, doubt if its a batch problem. The instruction leaflet said turn spindle all the way clockwise and then ditto for the knob on the cover and then replace cover. So I did the opposite. Now comes on at 6 o'clock and is nice and warm by 3 o'clock which should be when its gushing and cold. If the 'red zone' on the front dial doesn't work what is the point of it? But what the hell. Incidentally the technical help support for Redring are shall we say curt, 'it's a handwash' having spent time carefully explaining why the product didn't perform as advertised. It's three stars because at the end of the day it does what I want, seems robustly built unlike the triton one I used to have and fills up a basin in reasonable time (for a handwash). Just took a while to get things to be where I wanted them to be. Ce'st la vie. I'll be re-ordering sooner rather than later with no hard feelings.
