Live At Rockpalast 1979

I was so looking forward to this, as I love pre-Hi-Infidelity REO. This is REO at their critical peak. And I have several Rockpalast concerts (the ZZ Top one from 1980 is the best ZZ TOP concert ever), and sound quality has always been fine. But not here. The sound quality is ATROCIOUS. I mean most of my audience bootlegs are better quality then this. Why this was released I do not know, but I will try to return it, it is that bad. Such a shame, because the setlist is KILLER, but it is un-listenable. I basically sounds like a mono microphone was placed in a hallway outside the venue, and that was what was used for recording...

The DVD is wonderful. I have loved REO Speedwagon since 1979, so it takes me back to a happy time. Love the current line up, but it makes me miss Gary so much. That sheepish grin he gets when he plays, you know he loved what he was doing.

Sounds like a bootleg recorded from a guy standing at the bar a hundred yards from the stage. Too bad because the set list was impressive.

I was really looking forward to this one…. Great era of the band, right before they became megastars!!!!! And this was a great tour!!!! Unfortunately, this release is…. Simply put, horrible!!!!! The sound quality is so bad, that I haven’t even bothered with the DVD…It blows my mind that any label would release anything this bad….. and my condolences to the band… a GREAT live act, for this portrayal!!!! Avoid this one!!

The sound is like someone out in the audience recorded it and some professionals did the best they could with it. I could make out all the singing because I know the songs so well, but the vocals aren’t up front enough. You can hear plenty of guitar, snare, and cymbals. The bass is lost. (By that I mean the frequencies as well as Bruce’s playing.)Neal Doughty’s playing was on the money but his audience engagement is pretty subdued compared to how he was in the mid 80s through his retirement, but Alan, Bruce, Kevin, and Gary gave a super high energy performance that makes me wish I was there. Gary always smiled like he knew he had the best job in the world. He breaks two strings during the set.The video quality is decent for 1979. They show a lot of Kevin and Gary, occasionally showing Neal for a solo and Alan for a fill here and there. Bruce is rarely seen except during “Back on the Road Again”.It’s cool to see Kevin play a Strat and a Les Paul instead of the Ovation and Telecaster you may have become accustomed to see since 1984. Neal’s synth at the time was a Moog.This is just before REO became superstars, so the set list is great if you know the band’s material from before Hi Infidelity. Honestly, it’s nice to have a new release of older tunes without “Keep On Loving You” in there somewhere. Most of the material comes from REO/TWO and Nine Lives, easily the two most rocking studio albums.Kevin capers around in his somewhat feminine way. Besides saying “Danke schön” a couple times, he makes no effort to speak to the German audience in their native language. It doesn’t seem to matter to them, though. The crowd is shown occasionally and is very into the show; as much as you’d have seen in St Louis, Chicago, or Kansas City back in the day.If you’re a completist or are curious about the live show from before Hi Infidelity, it’s worth picking this up. Just don’t get your hopes up about the sound quality. For that reason, I give it only 3 stars.

The sound quality was horrendous. Unless you just want it as a collection piece don’t buy this. Should be illegal to even sale this. I’m sure REO had nothing to do with the release of this.

I should have not preordered. I should have waited for reviews. This is a total bootleg recording and it really isn’t even a good bootleg recording. I got excited when I saw it was coming out because of the Nine Live songs live. But, not good! You are warned.

Bad video and terrible audio.

REO in 1979 were at their absolute peak but you'd never guess from this release. Rockpalast sets are usually (usually!) top quality (and I should know, I've got over two dozen of them) but this one really is the pits. The sound is muddy throughout with the vocals so far down in the mix they're all but inaudible. The whole thing sounds like it was recorded on a cheap cassette player. In the toilets. Next door. As another reviewer said, there are better actual bootlegs than this, way better. And don't get me started on the DVD...Do yourself a favour, don't buy this, you'll thank me!

REO ist mit Sicherheit eine super Band, aber diese Veröffentlichung ist eine Schande! Katastrophaler Sound trotz modernster Technik. Das hätte MIG Music wirklich besser hinbekommen, aber diese CD/DVD ist für mich leider nur 1Stern wert, weil die Bildqualität für diese alte Aufnahme gerade noch akzeptabel ist, sonst gäbe es keinen Stern! Es gibt weitaus bessere Aufnahmen von REO. Auch andere Rockpalast Veröffentlichungen sind im Bild und Klang besser! Bin mir auch nicht sicher, ob die Band von dieser CD/DVD etwas mitbekommen hat. Sorry, das hätte man für diesen hohen Preis bleiben lassen sollen.

El envío llegó rápido y en perfecto estado, ninguna queja del vendedor. Otra cosa es la gran decepción que he tenido con el sonido resultante de esta edición. Malo es poco, pésimo. Tengo bastantes discos de la serie live at Rockpalast y este es sin duda uno de los que peor sonido tiene, y no es culpa del grupo, ellos están magistrales como siempre, es la chapucera remezcla hecha en la que es prácticamente imposible distinguir los instrumentos y la voz queda muy tapada por todo esa masa de sonido mal mezclado. Especialmente horrible es el CD. El DVD aún tiene la gracia de ver al grupo con una calidad de imagen aceptable, habitual en esta serie de ediciones, incluso diría que el sonido algo más claro, sin tirar cohetes. Pero el CD es inaudible, solo sirve para posavasos. Lastima de que los responsables no hayan querido hacer un trabajo medianamente decente con la edición, sabiendo que los seguidores de la banda lo íbamos a comprar sin dudarlo. Una falta de respeto al grupo y los fans.

CDはLIVE CHICAGO 1979とほぼ同じ収録曲で、TIME FOR ME TO FLYとCLOSING-OUTROがカットされている。音は確かに悪いが、DVDは、この後大ヒットアルバムを世に送り出す黄金期の5人が繰り出すパワフルなライブが映像として観ることができ感動し感謝です。DVDは音も画像もそこまで悪くないと思います。　REOFUNは買いだと思います。

...possibly the poorest sound quality since the Molly Hatchet one released several years ago.Look at the track listing i was so looking forward to this.From the moment the 'Pink Panther' intro finishes we get a bootleg quality sound,no proper instrument separation and the vocals buried in the mix.It reminds me of one of those expensive double vinyl bootlegs you got at record fayre's back in the day!How disappointed am I ? well i havent even bothered to watch the dvd thats how much..gutted expected better.
