This item is handmade of a solid piece of strong, hard Purpleheart wood. All surfaces are sanded ultra-smooth and rounded. Holes are beveled. Walt applies multiple coats of non-yellowing lacquer for a fine furniture-like finish. Because purpleheart wood is only purple in the center--or heart--of the wood, once it is cut, it takes a few days to turn purple when the heart is exposed to the light. That's why handling time is set at 9 days. It may not always take that much time.
