The Solo Wargaming Guide

Should have been titled "Setting Up A Wargames Campaign"
Disappointing. While the book covers the running of a wargame campaign very well, I felt that it dealt only very superficially with the thing that's unique about Solo Wargaming, namely the lack of an opponent. Running a campaign is something that's probably more attractive to solo wargamers; it introduces a degree of uncertainty that they need without an opponent to provide it, and they have the time to spend, say, the odd spare half hour on the minutiae of campaigning. This aspect was covered very well and certainly provides a good base as well as stimulating ideas for further refinements. But unfortunately what I really wanted was a bit more on "Artificial Intelligence". What was provided was enough to get by but really offered no great insights. I was left a bit frustrated that a book titled "Solo Wargaming" had devoted so little on the problem of how sensible options and decisions could be reached without there being an opponent. The book should have been aimed at campaign wargamers with a chapter about solo issues. I just hope the book title doesn't put off those more interested in setting up a campaign.

Great insight to solo wargaming
This book is a straightforward to the basics of solo wargaming. Simple enough to make the concept achievable, with ideas for solo gamers of most levels. If you lack real opponents or just want to practice your strategies for future games this book will prove useful to you.

Excellent Sarter Book on Solo Wargaming!
An excellent 'starter' book on how to play wargames if you (either) haven't got a local club nearby, the local club isn't to your liking, or, like me, you just prefer to play your games as a Solo Wargamer.

It's a slim volume so it's not a complete guide but enough to get you started. I found it disjointed and I think the reader will need to get other works to meet a need for a fuller understanding of wargaming.
