Sony STR-AZ5000ES 11.2 Channel 8K Home Theater AV Receiver (Renewed)

This reciever rocks! The surround sound, particularly ATMOS 7.2.4, is magical. Once you get use to the menu system it's easy to navigate. I bought this as refurbished/open box and it was like brand new.

The wrong front cover came with the unit, I did buy it "refurbished" though.

I just bought the Sony 5000 es (2025) just below the Sony 7000es, a day later after setup the 360 ssm exhibits high hissing due to the way it processes the sound. I upgraded the Sony AVR’s firmware and high hissing sound is present during 360 ssm use, if I switch to pure direct mode with no sound field processing all hissing stop. The Sony’ 360 ssm processing high hissing is very apparent in quiet scenes and or when you pause the movie. I googled to see if my unit is defective and the rabbit hole took me to Sony’s forums with the engineer stating it is normal operation. Aaahh, NO! For over 2k AVR, it better be fully functional unit. What does this mean? It means if you turn on Sony’s 360 ssm on all of their AVR that has it you will get a hissing sound. Do some research on Sony’s 360 ssm hissing sound before you commit, I am returning my Sony 5000es for the Onkyo RZ70, I hope that has no hissing noise.

Very nice as expected

Got the Reciever as a Refurbished unit and price was good. Product did not arrived with original Sony box hence minus 1 star, but was packed well enough. Small scratch by the panel i polished it up and good now. The reciever practically looks new as have to unpack all the accessories that came with. First thing I did is upgrade the firmware to latest 1.47 version. No hiss or pops . Sounds very good and haven't done any Calibration yet. Running 7.1.2 for now as have a moderate size living room. Im coming from a Yamaha Aventage 2080 and I believe its a Step up . The Yamaha is still very much viable but the Sony is definitely an upgrade. My .02 cents Thanks
