Great stories
My 9 year old son is reading these books. Some of the reading is a bit challenging for him but it’s a really good reading content compared to a lot of the books available for kids out there now a days.

Wholesome AND Well Written!
I just finished reading all 6 of these books and I was so excited I had to come on here and tell you about them so you'd know enough to want to buy them! I am an adult, and I heard about them because the Duggars recommended them, so I wanted to read them to see what my kids would be reading. I don't think I thought I'd end up reading all 6 and ordering books 7-12 already! But they are so good. Not only are they wholesome, godly books that teach tidbits of life advice and even occasionally math or other things that are good to know, but they are so extremely well written! I have really been enjoying them! The author's descriptions are interesting and paint such a picture, and just when you think you've got everything all figured out for what is about to happen, it surprises you! It's not predictable, never corny, and so exciting at times! My least favorite of the 6 books was The Killer Bear because the book was actually about being "saved" and only the last 2 short chapters was about the bear. All of the rest of the books were just fantastic! And the Killer Bear book wasn't bad either. One other potential negative I saw was that in one of the books, the kids get into a physical fight, and the author does not seem to think this is a bad thing. It was a different time. The books talk a lot about God / Jesus / The Bible, and bring it up on numerous occasions. The kids go to church and Sunday school and it says a few times how silly it is to think you are a sissy for going to church (which some kids will make you feel like), and sends the message that you will be good and happy being a Christian, and sad or bad if you're not. This author really understands kids, or boys. It shows through clearly, in the thoughts the main character has, and the things the kids plan for fun.The main character boy has a tiny tiny interest in girls (although I'm sure he would not want to admit it) but the author shows this by saying he wants to kill a spider or something for a girl with nice curls. He's always talking about killing a spider for a girl it's so cute. But then, like I said, the author always gives a twist, so just you wait when he finally sees a spider next to the girl with nice curls! It's so realistic.I really can't say enough good things about these books.Personally, I am Catholic, so the only thing I'm not crazy about is that they are CLEARLY protestant and constantly talking about getting people "saved".They are always going on fun and different adventures so it's not boring. These kids are so much fun to hang out with. I'll probably start book 7 tomorrow :D I can't wait for my kids to read these.

Overall Great books!
We really like these books. They are realistic (at least to Christian families...they would seem unrealistic to the world or the modern day church) and they are entertaining. They are wholesome, but you do have to understand that this was written in a different time. The boys do get into a fist fight, more than once, but it is also emphasized that fighting is only for defense, and not the goal. After one fight, they all began praying for those they fought with (in which they did try to avoid the fight). The goal of these books is not to create some perfect world that is unrealistic and unattainable. It deals with what boys this age are thinking and the situations they may realistically some across. Some of the boys grow up in homes with godly parents, some do not. That's reality, and this book really focuses on that so that all boys can relate. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is this book focuses heavily on "asking Jesus into your heart", which is nowhere in the Bible. The age of readers reading these books may be heavily influenced by simply saying a sinner's prayer and being saved, all while not following the Biblical requirement of salvation set out by Jesus.I do think this author understood Biblical salvation. I think it was simply in his effort to simplify the Gospel for children he fell into the common terminology that is used. We simply read these books together as a family first, I use my handy, dandy correction tape and pen to fix any areas that I want explained better, and we enjoy the books!

Sugar Creek Gang Books 1-6
I had heard the Sugar Creek Gang series as a radio broadcast and wanted to buy the books for my son, who is now 8. He absolutely loves them. I would describe the books as being somewhere in between the Hardy Boys and Little House on the Prairie. The books are set during the same time frame as the Hardy Boys, but are set geographically in rural Indiana -- so you get a gang of boys knowledgeable in fishing, hunting, farming, one-room schoolhouses and general country living and family life. The author really works hard to tell the stories from a little boy's perspective and it works -- some of the things he says which I think are goofy completely resonate with my son. And he tells the books like one big story, connecting each book in the series with the previous one, even giving a foreshadowing of the story of the next book in the series within the final pages of the previous book. After each book, my son can't wait to get to the next one.No review of these books is complete without mentioning the faith-building messages of the books. The main narrator, a character by the name of Bill Collins, weaves in everyday Christian thoughts and messages all from a little boy's perspective. They are thought-provoking comments that are short enough to not appear to be "preachy" but with enough substance to plant a seed in the hearts and minds of children.I knew the books would be good, but reading them aloud, I realize they are great.

Sugar Creek Gang is an awesome series of books for boys! You won't want to stop reading in the middle of one. They are so exiting to read. I have enjoyed reading them over and over again! They are a good series of Christian books for boys of all ages to read. They are also a good present to give. The books encourage boys in their faith.

Love these books!
Amazing books. Incorporates history in a way a kid can understand. I have a nine-year-old boy who does not like to read. Now he just finished one of these books in two hours and cannot wait to read another one. I am so excited that I just ordered another two box sets!
