One of Crichton's first books.
One of Crichton's First books! Fans know Crichton was a physician before he became a famous writer. You'll appreciate this quick summary of Medicine's progress before and during the 1960's. Increases one's gratitude towards those researchers who are constantly providing new procedures and medications that actually help Americans stay healthy and heal those that are experiencing health issues. Informative yet entertaining.

A fascinating read ahead of its time
One of Michael Crichton's first books - if not his first - it informs with ideas on the future of how medical care might be available in the future to more people via computer and such. And here we are...

Eh
I actually didn’t really enjoy this book. I read a case of need, and I enjoy medical things so I thought I would enjoy this, but it turned out to be really boring and confusing. It wasn’t so much about the cases, they were talked about briefly, but it was mostly medical talk that didn’t make much sense to me

But it's a great book that jump started his career
Not what you would expect from Crichton series since he always focuses on fiction rather than non fiction. But it's a great book that jump started his career. Crichton went to medical school, and this was a side project from his medical student years. Great addition to those in the medical field.

Take care - there's a lot of medical jargon
This wasn't what I was expecting -- too much medical jargon for my taste as it rapidly got tedious. But that was my fault, as I bought it on the recommendation of a friend and didn't research the content fully enough before buying.

The book is a relatively flowing collection of case studies ...
The book is a relatively flowing collection of case studies, an analysis of the then changing state of medicare and a history of medical science. All components perform vital functions, but it is the historical part, which is commonly surprising as it is fascinating, that is the healthiest and most invigorating.

still I liked this book very much
I am not a medical student, still I liked this book very much. I had read this book, may be some 20 years back but when my niece started studying medical, gave her this book. She liked the book so much that, she recommended the book in all her circle.
