Finetec FTP001 Skin Tones Pencil Set - 15 Colors

I am very impressed with this set of skin tone pencils. They seem to be soft leaded and lay down smooth color. I was kind of iffy about investing in pencils just for skin tones but I'm very glad I did. They arrived VERY quickly. I have yet to sharpen one of them so I don't know how they do with that but I'll find out when the time comes. Soft lead is harder to sharpen without breakage but much better to color with. A very good set of pencils and I would recommend them to any colorist.

The reviews that indicated that the pencils are hard and don't blend well are right. However, those may not be necessary traits if you simply want to color. I swathed all of the pencils at various pressures (low, medium and heavy) as well as trying to blend all 15 with each other two colors at a time (225 little blocks). What I found is it's the pressure that makes the real difference. Some of the colors blended fine, but many looked like oil and vinegar that's starting to separate. I've watched the YouTube videos where they combine five different colors to produce one patch of realistic skin, taking an hour and a half to do so. Does it look realistic? Yes! Do I want to spend that much time to get it to be realistic? No! The Fine-Tec pencils, when combined with shadowing and different pressures, will make most coloring pages look just fine and give you a range of ethnic skin tones. The reason I took off a star is that some of the pencils are very close in color, as well as having no true light pink. There are no names on the pencils. I compared them with my 72 colored pencil set and used those names if the colors matched or made up names for those that were close. but not quite right ("wolf" instead of "coyote", for example). While not perfect, these pencils will let you have fun and won't break the bank.

These are hard coloring pencils. Not use to how much pressure is required to use them. Since I bought them for body and face I don't want to overdue them. I will keep trying to work with them since not all pencils are equal. I assume I have to get use to how to blend, since I'm new to coloring people I find it to be a real challenge so for they don't blend easily like other pencils. I also bought Prismacolor flesh tones and they have just about the same colors. Haven't used them yet but I have a whole set of their other colors.

Gee wiz as an artist who loves racial diversity, it was really frustrating only having like 3 skin colors- but now I have a lot, and can use them together to make more unique skin tones! I didn't rate it 5 stars because two of the pencils are black and white- but it probably had it in the description and I wasn't paying attention....

I was disappointed, hard pencils with scratchy feel. Really prefer softer pencil, also don't blend as well as other pencils.

I love to color and this selection of pencils for various skin tones is good. I like the variety. They aren't soft lead so I hadto play with to get the smooth look I wanted. Leads don't break easily and I color fairly hard.

I'm a colorist and these pencils are great they offer a wide range of skin tones they lay down on the paper well and are very bendable I would recommend these pencils to other artists

Nice pencils for skin coloring

As it stands, this set has more colors than I can use presently. But I have used them in a different fashion in coloring rather than on just skin and they are more than worth the money!

These pencils r great. Why did I wait so long. It's hard trying to match skin tones without these pencils. Glides over paper great. A must to have. 10 in my book. Thank u

Great collection and good quality at a reasonable price, and ideal for younger artists as they hone their blending skills.

Wide colour range so will work for everyone. Nice lead which so far has been a dream to use

I am pleased with these. They are pretty smooth colored pencils and a good variety of skin tone colors.
