Read On
This is a book with two audiences: 1) those in a History of Language course; 2) those interested in history of language. It comes with on-line exercises (I did not study these). You can do each chapter in a week. If you are planning to use it in a course (as instructor or student) be ready to do some work; the book will not just teach itself, and you need to be prepared. It does not talk down to readers, nor does it simply repeat the banalities of earlier textbooks. So grab a strong cup of coffee, take a deep breath and dive in!
